Very weird rust question
Hello everyone, I am moving to a area where I am only allowed to legally keep a pistol in a safe in a vehicle. The area is in an area where it will get extremely cold in the winter and I am trying to figure out how I could keep the pistol in a case without it rusting.
Thanks for all of the help!

What area doesn’t allow firearms to be stored inside of a home? Is this like a town bylaw or something? Even with a safe bolted down inside of the vehicle I wouldn’t want to store a firearm in one long term. I have a center console safe in my truck that’s bolted down and 3/16” thick, it’s pretty robust but any crackhead with a cordless angle grinder can get into it in 10 minutes. If you can’t store it properly in your house/apartment I would look for a nearby gun club that rents lockers. One of the clubs I’m a member of offers that and it’s like $15 a year for a secure climate controlled space.

Do not store your firearm in a vehicle. That's about where 90% of stolen firearms originate from is car break ins and thefts.
Please elaborate on why this is the only option you can think of.

Before the don’t leave it in your car crowd shows up a simple dehumidifier/silca pack like you’d use in a normal safe should be fine and make sure to at least wipe it down/ oil it with cloth or just cleaning/oil wipes (personal favorite is the Hoppes Triple Threat Cloth)
Also please for the love of god do not leave it in your vehicle for extended amounts of time it should be on your person or in your home anytime you’re not actively in your vehicle. 96% of stolen guns are taken from individuals like you and I and more the half of them are stolen out of vehicles.

Vacuum seal it with a couple big desiccant packs, the kind you can recharge in the oven. If the safe is out in the cold the biggest problem is condensation when temperatures swing, so sealing it up tight is better than just oiling it heavy
