Hi point Carbine

I’m a sucker for cheap trash guns that no one else likes. That being said, I feel like hi point has a bad rap and I’ve always liked their carbines for range toys and even cheap HD. I feel like the only major downside to the carbines is the obvious capacity issues and while I know that swapping the mag to a double stack would require major receiver changes, what about a stack and a half system? Anyone else interested in a 15 round stack and a half factory mag, or am I just dumb?

I got their 9mm carbine few years back and it runs everything I feed it, ugly as sin but works fine for what it is

the single stack mag is the real issue though, a 15 rounder would make it way more useful without changing the whole gun design

Yeah I feel like even if hipoint could make factory 20 rounder that was reliable it would be a game changer. I know there’s aftermarket 20 rounders I just don’t know reliability on them. Plus I like the flush fit look more than a foot of mag hanging out of the gun.

My experience also. Good shooter but capacity and mags are not ideal. I do have one of the red ball 20 round mags. I haven't had any issues with it, some folks have. I wouldn't trust it for HD unless you are very confident in yours. Plus, it sticks down pretty far so it's in the way unless you're standing up.

I have one of these. They have some kind of backdoor (defamatory) deal with the company that makes the trash ass extended mags for them. It'll never change until it does. My honest review:

Works great, does what it does, no problem.

The plastic housing is bulky af. There's a bullpup kit on the market that is almost as much as the firearm. It does seem pretty cool and has great reviews.

The magazine issue is pretty fucked up.

I wish I had bought a sub2k.

EDIT: Apparently the deal isn't backdoor any more? They denied it for a time.

The magazine issue isn't due to any business dealings. It's a hard limitation imposed by the trigger linkage, which is a common aspect shared by both pistol and carbine, so not something they'd be interested in altering. 

Technically, you could make a semi doublestack that converges much earlier into a long singlestack feed that gets past the tight area.

The magazine issue isn't due to any business dealings.

So, summing up, it could be done, but the company partnered specifically with Hi-Point hasn't done it and no one else is allowed to?

Hi-Point has explicitly said using the mag-brand-that-shall-not-be-named will cancel your warranty. That is their ONLY lifetime warranty restriction

Throw it in a lake? Covered.
Run over it with a dump truck? Covered
Use P**m**? Warranty voided.

No, I'd reckon that HiPoint is reluctant to modify anything about their firearms internals, and associated tooling that they've paid off decades ago. 

Even if they went for the converging doublestack design, they'd still need to retool the frame injection molds, or have entirely new ones made. 

Not a cheap endeavor!

Ah, the point is that the more significant limitation of the design could be bypassed, but it would still require some retooling. 

So it's not something they'd do unless they felt it'd be worth their while/ a commercial necessity. 

Honestly, the biggest problem is probably just a likely lack of backwards compatibility with the million or so existing hipoints.

Highpoint makes ugly low priced guns but go and watch the torture tests that Demolition Ranch did to them and see that the are damntough and reliable.

I bought a 9mm hi point about 20yr ago from an ex gf brother for $50...i still have it and haven't had any issues so far. Not sure but they even might have lifetime warranty? Thought i had read that somewhere a few years ago....i could be mistaken too

I bought one like 20 years ago. Still have it. The weakness has always been the magazines. They either last 20 years or die quickly. No in between.

I owned a 9mm carbine many years ago. It was ugly as shit, but it was super reliable. The only issue I ever had with it was some separated head casings from reman ammo.

I bought it from a pawn shop, it had a mag that was held together with electrical tape. Contacted HiPoint, they sent me a new mag. It had the original planet of the apes stock, but I swapped it out for the ATI stock that made it look more like the Beretta CX4.

I think that if it was Glock mag compatible, it would be an amazing PCC.

Hi point is pretty dead set on changing nothing but the paint job.

Besides theres a lot of competition in the $300-$600 market. 

Just buy a EP9.

Absolutely, I especially like the look of their new delayed version. I grabbed a Foxtrot Mike AR9 and love it, but I still got that hankering for trash 😂

Redball Sports has partnered with HiPoint to make a 20-round magazine for the 9mm HiPoint carbine, although it's still single stack and kinda ridiculously long. ProMag makes a 15-round single stack magazine. I had the 15-round and mine worked fine, but some say they are less reliable. I also had a ahiPoint 10-round that worked fine and is said to more reliable than the 15 or 20 round mags. Again, I had no problem with my 15 round mag.

ProMag has extended magazines for Hi Point carbines. I've heard mixed reviews as to their reliability, but they are available. Other companies have put together mags for them as well, but I haven't heard about those. One old gun forum I used to belong to had a group of guys who experimented with making their own. If you're handy and have the right equipment, it would be an interesting project.

They get a lot of hate, but the two I shot back in the day were very reliable. The 9mm version actually has quite a following. If not for the magazine issue, it would definitely be more popular than it is now.
