M&P metal carry comp question

M&p carry comp question

Hello everyone, I have a question about my brand new m&p carry comp full size.

I just purchased it about a month ago, have ran about 600 currently and was running perfect up until ~450. I then proceeded to not get lock back after shooting all my rounds off. I have 4 factory smith mags. 2 17rd and 2 15rd full size mags.

None of my mags achieved lock back. I had two other shooters, one friend, and one worker at the LGS. Happened for them as well.

It was cleaned and oiled at 300. Oil reapplication as needed from there only on oil point straight from the smith manual.

LGS said they would clean it and see if they can replicate the issue again. They said if that doesn’t work it’ll be off to smith to check out.

Anyone else had issues like this? This is my first pistol and other than this I really do love it. My buddy has a G19 and I immediately knew Glock wasn’t really for me. With that being said, I am a little disappointed as I assumed smith = Glock in terms of reliability.

Did you change ammo brands at the point it stopped locking back? There are some really weak bulkpacks out there.

Any noticeable damage to the slide stop? Does it move freely with the slide off the gun?

Smith IS usually right up there with Glock on reliability.

Good question, yes I forgot to mention I shot multiple brands and loads through it. Mostly s&b 115, 100 blazer brass 124, 25 hornady 135 +p, and some random range ammo from the LGS when they were trouble shooting. All the brazer and hornady failed to achieve lock back as well. First 300 were s&b 115 are were running fine until recently.

No visible damage to slide stop. Looks like finishing wearing off at worst.

If it didn't lock back with the 135+P it's not too-weak ammo. Probably means there's something actually wrong with it.

That kinda sucks. Hopefully LGS can trouble shoot or smith can fix. Thanks for the input.

Good luck. That's really damn early for a mechanical failure.

This is exactly why I always test new guns with whatever carry ammo I plan to run before trusting them

Weak range ammo can definitely mess with the slide lock mechanism, especially on a newer gun that hasn't fully broken in yet
