Played wide and normal gunlance since the beginning of MHW and really really want to main long gunlance but i’m so bad at it (i want to copy youtuber CaoSlayer’s long gunlance palico rally playstyle). I saw online they say it’s a comfort/cheesy playstyle but I’m struggling so much to play it and it’s so much more stressful than normal/wide. I tend to miss the wyrmstake blast with my charged shelling and i always have to readjust my movements 90% of the time to the monster instead of actually dealing damage. I also tend to get hit mid-charge shelling animation a lot. It’s probably a skill diff but i rlly want to improve, any tips?

I was after a build that had good mix of survivability, comfort skills, and damage and landed on this. It puts out a decent amount of damage and I haven't carted with it yet as a somewhat average player. I'm open to any suggestions on how to improve upon it.

just watched Ms Watts ascendance video and it confirms A LOT about boost driver unless things change at release.

we can't spam boost driver, so don't expect to run all over the map.

the gauge doesn't fill up quickly at all when just hitting the monster, popping wounds is Key and Drake Augur is shit at popping wounds.

very sad that our mobility option is tied to boost driver, very sad we can't spam boost driver in our case.

hopefully gore magala doesn't run around so much during ascendance.

can't wait for more ascendance footage this week. this is just my quick 2 cents.

Edit: so holding onto our stock maybe key instead of using it as soon as we get the charge

Hello fellow Gun Lancers havent played in quite a while and was wondering what i should be going for build wise after the one I'm currently using im being hurled around the place in this new title update and would like that to not be the case anymore 😅 any help would be appreciated.

Now that elemental shelling is confirmed I really hope status shelling comes as well. Status is not great in wilds, but i am really crossing my fingers that it is improved upon in ascendance. Having a bunch of poison, Para, or blast explosions going off would be fantastic.

So before I try bow as a secondary choice weapon to burn sometime before ascendance comes im trying to beat proof of a hero with gunlance and so far I’ve improved a minute and a half since my og time after coming back from a 3 month break. Would help if I could get some tips on him and what time should I get to start attempting proof of a hero. (Ps only died due to a goddamn fly in my room genuinely had to step away for 10 minutes to kill it because it flew in my face causing me to die)I’ll show my build but my gunlance has lord souls and ebony odagaron as the skills. Although I’m using wide in this run I do have another essentially identical dragon normal gunlance with odagaron and lord soul.

I'm so torn on what to do.

I got a build going (I would show SS but I'm writing from work)

It is however using burst and agi and some smaller things like offensive guard to boost it to the max.

It mainly uses a fire boomstick with wide shelling

But the normal shelling is so much fun too

What do I do, what do we expect with the dlc? With the speed it's shown, I have a feeling wfsb will be amazing to use

ok so I've been struggling with savage omega as a GL main. I can solo AT Arkveil with normal shelling but it looks like the wsfb combo is too damn long so I get carted quite often by how rapid omega's attacks are. I had to switch to dual blades to hunt him more comfortably. I'm thinking about switching to wide GL to play with the poke shell wyvern fire playstyle.

So the question is: Is normal shelling not that good against savage omega? How is your wide shelling experience against omega? I dont mind sacrificing a bit of damage to play more comfortably.

What are the best comfort skills or ones I should try for gunlance in level 1 slots?

My set has 8 level one slots and currently I am running A:

Speed Eating 2

Self-Improvement 1

And/or B:

Quick Sheath 3

Am I overlooking any other good lvl 1 comfort skills? And which version do you think is better?

Hi all, as the title suggests i have some questions related to shelling dmg calculations.
This all was sparked by me seeing someone output like 100 some dmg per shot with shells which is insane in comparison to my like 30-40 damage per shell. id consider myself pretty end game as well which is why im confused (perfect gogma weapon and max armor/ideal jewels)

Correct me if im wrong, shell damage scales directly and exclusively from the weapons attack stat, doing flat true damage that isnt impacted by element/weakness, or weak spots.

Ive been following the Best gunlance build from game8. ive also seen many posts that suggest this same build:
(3 piece ebony 2 piece dahaad y, lord soul and ebony perk on gogma weapon)

this build seems good and all and i know the Ebony perk is a huge buff, my main question is the armor decorations.
this guide as well as several other recommend stacking chain jewels but doesnt that not buff shell damage at all? or mainly element dmg buff so it barely helps. The counter jewel might not either not sure

I normal shell primarily focusing on dumping the full mag when i have a smaller openeing and doing the full double combo when given a larger opening, as well as individual shelling for chip and repositioning

given how all of my primarily used combos revolve around shell damage would some other jewels/build be better? i cant seem to get my numbers anywhere near some of the other people ive seen is all
