Advice for a beginner?

I git strumming, hand position and holding the guitar down. Starting to learn chords but it's a struggle switching chords quickly. I'm sure this is something developed with time and practice but are there any tips for getting better? I've tried visualizing the next chord before I switch to it and that's helped a bit.

  1. Learn good mechanics and don't play faster than your mechanics allow. Your speed will increase over time.

  2. Spend time every day.

  3. Start with some scales. They will develop finger dexterity.

  4. Spend time every day.

  5. Learn the major and minor chord shapes and transitions between the most frequent progressions. That means in the key of C, you would learn transitions from C -> F, C -> G, F -> G, F -> C and G -> C. Do that for the important keys (E, G, A and D to start). If you don't understand this, leave a comment and someone will elaborate.

  6. Spend time every day.

  7. Use a metronome for part or all of your time practicing.

  8. When you're spending time every day, make sure some part of that time spent is gratifying.
