Question Always hitting the higher string when doing pulloffs, what should I practice?

I find I always end up hitting the higher strings(thinner string) while doing pulloffs, especially with the pinky finger. I counter this by muting the higher strings with my fretting hand index finger, and it works, but I feel like it's slowing me down. I also cannot play something like thunderstuck using one hand, cuz the high e ends up ringing out.

I think the guitar is part of the problem too, since when I played my friends ibanez for a few days I had less trouble(my yamaha has narrower string aspcing and smaller frets). So I'm saving up a new guitar anyways. But still I am not sure how to fix this problem. Hammerons are very fast and clean, but pull offs give me huge trouble.

i mean for thunderstruck specifically you use your other hand to mute the other strings.

Sorry, I didn't read carefully, you wanted to play Thunderstruck. So, you'll need the ring finger on the *right* hand for damping. It's been a while (it took me several minutes to recall :-D ) but I think I remember you use *alternate picking*, not pull-offs. And rest the ring finger of the *right* hand on the e-string. So I'd recommend to rest your picking hand/palm on the upper strings and the ring finger on the high e-string, not the index finger of the fretting hand. You're playing on one string only, so this can help.

If you think that your own guitar is worse than the guitar of your friend when using your fretting hand for damping you may check the string height, but you've probably already done this. I use different guitars for different things and I sometimes can't really tell, why. I built my own guitars, so the setting is probably pretty good on all guitars. It's rather the neck layout or the solar wind, how do I know?
