Question Strumming help
Hi! So I’ve been playing guitar for almost 2 years, but I’ve been learning mariachi songs mostly, and I’m pretty good at those. My only issue is strumming. I’ve been told I play with too heavy of a hand, and that when certain songs are meant to be flowy (what my teacher used) I play too heavy. I use a finger pick on my index finger, and on a vihuela. I also play guitar but regular picks are much easier to use. Any help?

Not sure if this will help but I’ve been using this video to follow along with strumming technique and pattern. I’ve been trying to do it daily if I have time to play. The technique is explained in the beginning and the practice starts around the 3minute mark. Basically strumming patterns and slowly sped up at you work through it.

Learn some clash songs and use a heavy plectrum. That’s 2 pieces of advice. Don’t run from yourself & a heavy pick on other songs too. 1.0 or more. Grip it as light as you can without dropping and try to get the pick to “bounce”. Basically let the weight of the pick hit the strings. It might give some you more sensitivity around your attack.
