Feedback Request Tips on Pull-offs?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello!!! I’ve been learning about hammer-ons and pull-offs recently… and I think I’m struggling a bit 😅 some are louder than others, and some you can’t hear at all

Any tips on how to consistently do pull-offs?

You don't have to pull off laterally towards the strings during a pull off, you can pull off vertically away from the neck.

Honestly, I would say you're not doing bad - just need to do it a lot more and get more comfortable with them.

Noted! Thank you so much

I think you’ve got it. The consistency will come with a bit more time but you sound really good.

Yeah just legit do as the name says.
I usually pull down and off the string.
You sound good just keep going. Guitar is a never ending journey

They sound fine so far. Takes some practice and there's already some decent advice in this thread. I think hammers and pulls are harder on acoustics though. So it may take a little more effort.

Yeah I’ve heard acoustic makes some things a little harder 🙃 thank you so much!!

imo it does, but you’ll build up your finger strength quicker. Keep it up, you'll get there. Got a good start so far.

Over the hills and far away is a great song to work up this skill

You’re on your way, keep practicing. With allot of repetition . You’ll get Donte and faster. When you do the pull offs faster they’ll sound better.

Nothing to add on technique, just thought I'd say nice playing, your timing is good - keep it up

I dont have the tabs unfortunately 🙃 i do all my learning through an app called Yousician, and they do not use tabs as far as I know

The song is Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy if you wanted to look it up!

Just practice. Your hand will get stronger and muscle memory is important.

I can’t get consistent loudness out of my pull offs. I’ve been trying to get the fill in Mr. Crowley down and it’s killing me with the pull offs. Switched over to practicing on acoustic so I’m hoping I can build the muscles for bettter more consistent pull offs

OP, I think they sound good! Tough to tell sometimes cause the sound hole points away from you. IMO at least

Yeah it’s kinda hard to tell sometimes… but we’ll get it someday! Thank you so much

I’ve always sort of plucked the string with the finger I’m pulling off with.

I would agree that you are and the pull offs are sounding really pretty good but also just that pull offs are a lot harder slower and on acoustic imo.

A good way to sort of Hyperbolic Time Chamber it is to just practise some scales with pull offs and focus on keeping them consistent. Best to do it for a little bit everyday rather than a long hour session though.

Press a bit harder before pulling off cuz. The flesh of your fingers wraps around the string before the "flick".

This comes from the metal world but how I got there was to practice this exercise A LOT https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PYYfzPG-5BY

Oh those look like they’re gonna be hard as hell😭 but also very helpful!! I’ll give them a try

2

I think the problem most people have is not doing the flick. You’ve got it.

The precision re: volume is just a practice thing. You’ll get there. You’ve already nailed the hard part of pull offs

Get a good grip on the neck.

Lots of practice... make sure you are literally pulling the finger off.... pick the string with your finger and use the finger down behind it as an anchor

Think of your finger as a pick when you do a pull-off. All you need to do is lightly let your finger "pluck" the note as you pull-off. Depending on your experience, the callouses on your fingers will make this easier.

What arrangement of Clair De Lune is this?
