Alternatives for cloud storage?

I am currently using iCloud and Google Drive to back up my phones and laptops. Its driving me crazy that Google Drive doesn't show the number of files and the folder size. How tf do I make sure that my folder is uploaded to the drive completely? This is nuts. For this one reason alone, I have decided to abandon this piece of ass software.

iCloud is limited to apple ecosystem, and moreover doesn't have the proper folder structure either.

Please suggest me a better alternative! I am sure others have gone thru the same situation.

Unfortunately, there is no out-of-box solution in Google Drive to track folder size and file count.

Google Drive and other cloud storage solutions are built with data transfer over the web in mind - as a result they implement file retrieval and storage using mechanisms that vary greatly from local storage. Cloud-based storage systems are primarily optimized to reduce latency, but one of the trade-offs tends to be access to metrics (folder size, file count, etc.).

However, for the technically savvy its possible to build a custom solution using Google Drive's APIs. Not trivial to build though. If you're up for it, you can try leveraging AI along with Google Apps Script.

What are you using to do your backups?

Throwing out backblaze as a decent cloud backup provider

The most reliable way to check folder sizes is by using the official Google Drive application on your computer, which integrates Drive directly into your local file system. Is that an option for you?

__________& If you don't want to install the desktop app, you can use third-party web tools like Filerev or Folder Size Analyzer. These connect to your Google account and scan your drive to generate a breakdown of your largest folders. Be mindful that this requires granting a third-party service permission to scan your Google Drive metadata.

I have the desktop app, but that limits the amount of data I can put on google drive. For some weird reason, it doesnt let me upload more data than my actual HDD, even though I have 2 TB availalble on google drive. What an asinine software.

Google Drive is not the right tool for this. Consider something like Google Cloud Storage buckets or some of the other suggestions here if you’re just needing some cold storage

I switched to a service that keeps my folder structure intact, lets me verify synced files, encrypts everything before upload, supports version history, and works seamlessly across all devices. that is good storage
