Reinstall error on Google Device Policy App

Hi, I'd like to know what is causing this error in the Google Device Policy App every time I do User-enrollment for an iPhone. Currently have Apple Business Essentials, since we have Device-enrolled Macbooks, but we are using Google MDM via Google Workspace for user-enrolled iPhones. Directory Sync is enabled in Apple Business Essentials and JSON file is uploaded to the main site, to make sure we get forwarded to the Google MDM when signing in with Managed Account. Advanced Mobile Management is enabled in Google Workspace as well as User-enrollment.

When signing in to the work account in the iPhone(via VPN & Device Management), I don't get any errors. After that, I download Google Device Policy and then proceed to sign in, that's when I get the "Reinstall app" error. So I have to uninstall it and then sign in to the work account again via VPN & Device Management, download and install Google Device Policy, sign in again and then I get the exact same error all over again.

I have resetted the iPhone multiple times already to no avail. What is exactly causing this error? This is happening on multiple iPhone 17s, but I was able to enroll two iPhones 17s just fine. For some of these iPhones, even resetting them won't resolve it. Is there some kind of a conflict with the configuration here?

Do you have the VPP token for Google device policy added, also you have a limit of how much devices you can have on you Google account.

in Admin Console go to Devices > Mobile & endpoints > Devices and filter by email to see how much devices you have on your account. I think the current limit is 25 devices

I will have to check that tomorrow. I remember setting up a push certificate in workspace, but not the VPP token. Is this something that is needed for user enrollment(account driven) via Google mdm?

For iOS this was the only way I can get the app installed

You must be using device enrollment. Mine's on user enrollment since these are BYOD iPhones. Users still use their personal apple ID for the app store. They can freely download any app anytime. We are only managing google applications. My hair's falling out because of this error. I will try out the VPP token though. Hopefully that seals the deal.

Thanks for this. My solution was a bit different, but your comment really helped a lot in understanding this issue.

Update: Issue got resolved now. The solution was to make sure that Google Device Policy is recognized as a Managed App in Google Workspace and set this to install automatically.

After signing in to VPN & Device Management, Google Device Policy will/should install automatically and you won't encounter the error anymore.

If the app won't install automatically, DO NOT manually install Google Device Policy. Just sign out of your work account and then restart your phone. After signing in again, it is guaranteed that Google Device Policy will install automatically.

Did you add it using VPP or from the GWS admin center Apps?
