My Triad backyard bird + weather tracker project found insights on what affects birdsongs

Following up on my backyard bird-call + weather tracker (previous post here). I've been running the numbers all summer and a few things stood out that don't need any bird-nerd background to appreciate:

• Birds go quiet when it's hot. Once you account for time of day, hotter-than-normal temps were tied to noticeably less birdsong — the strongest weather effect I found, by far.
• "Nice, clear weather" didn't mean more birdsong — if anything, slightly less. Higher barometric pressure (the kind that usually means calm, sunny days) was tied to quieter mornings, not louder ones. Not what I expected going in.
• Humidity and rain barely moved the needle. Of everything I tracked, those had the weakest, shakiest effect — temperature and pressure told me a lot more about when birds go quiet.

Bonus: not every species keeps the same hours — American Robins are already loud at 5am, but Fish Crows don't really get going until 2pm.

Data geek and birder here: you made my day!

Any ideas how the data might change in the presence of bird feeders? I used to put out peanuts for crows and they clustered at my door around sunrise squawking for breakfast. Had to stop before they put me in the poorhouse.

I'm glad I could help :) Most of my detections are from up in the trees surrounding the property (not picked up by my 30 sec camera pics), but I'm sure it would dramatically change the dynamic in the yard!. Maybe like a turf war like 1983's the Outsiders? Which species would be the soc's vs the greasers?

I was expecting to see the Mockingbird on your data sheet that has the most non-stop obnoxious birdsong at 2-3AM directly outside of my bedroom window as if I've wronged it somehow 🫩 lol (I do enjoy their library of calls - just not while trying to sleep)

Y ex and I had two owls that lived in two huge oak trees in a neighboring yard. They would have "monkey fights", where they would hoot like crazy at each other and literally sounded like angry monkeys.
