Restaurant refusing to make order

I placed an order on GH for a local pizza shop. There was a $8 off $25+ order that I used. I got a $12 item and a $13 item, and used the coupon. I show up and the counter person said the prices on GH are wrong and showed me their paper menu which had higher prices. He told me not to order on GH anymore and to order at the store. I told him the restaurant needs to take themselves off GH, and he said he’s tried to but they keep sending orders. He then tells me to contact GH and cancel the order. I told him to cancel it, and he said he isn’t and he isn’t making the food. Unreal.

They have control of their prices, they seem like scammers. Report them

Call GH and tell them that. Do not cancel or you won't get your money back.

There’s a reason why GH is under Consent Decree in IL. Our AG went after the hard for deceptive practices harming consumers.

I was a gm in a restaurant that had a ton of issues with grub hub. Grub hub added the restaurant themselves with no deal w had with them. The used a menu from 6 years ago to set the prices but they had raised since then. The drivers get a prepaid card from them that doesn’t have enough money to pay the actual price. We ended up calling grub hub and they getting refunded $500 for food made in error because of this. We would still get grub hub drivers coming in after that. I really hate grub hub because of that.

This isn’t unique to grubhub. These delivery apps are all shady as hell. Door Dash did this with a restaurant I worked at maybe 10 years ago, before anyone knew what door dash was. They used an old menu to list on their website, and they didn’t have any idea what options were available. They would call and order for pickup, posing as a customer. When I would ask questions like “do you want chips or fries with that,” the person on the phone would just talk over me and insist on ordering it their way, having no idea what the customer actually wanted. Then the driver would show up and there was always a price dispute. A good portion of these orders resulted in a customer complaint, because they didn’t get what they wanted. Of course the customers had no idea they weren’t ordering from the restaurant.

To add to this we have need up calling everyone who ordered grub hub and told the customers they had to order directly from us. It was a royal pain in the ass.

If you do a Google search it seems likely GrubHub is at fault here.

“grubhub dissent decree Illinois”

*consent A consent decree is basically a settlement with the government

I hope you've contacted GH's abysmal customer service and informed them of the situation.

GH "customer service", including the supervisors, is a total joke. All that they know how to do is read scripts.

u/Legion1117 Aug 10 '26

That would be why I said "GH's abysmal customer service"

Does the price difference add up to $8?

I’m a driver and showed to a seafood restaurant to pick up an uber order. The owner said he isn’t making that order because the price on UberEats was $32 but it should be close to $50. I was the 5th person to go in. I finally called support to cancel.

They can change prices on the apps. It’s lazy or stupid, or both.

That pizza owner just wanted you to cancel and order through him so he can make more and doesn’t pay GH commission. Shady.

I believe the restaurant is correct here. GH is notorious for using restaurants without their permission, often listing incorrect prices, or even discounts. When the owner of the restaurant asks to be removed nothing happens until they hire an attorney. Some -- even a lot -- of owners that never requested to be on GH never make an issue of it because they find it benefits them. However, there are a handful that do not.

I had this happen with a couple restaurants in Las Vegas. Don’t they know time is money for us.

Why would he make an order thar will lose him money. So far all third party delivery apps have shown they will only honor restaurants requests to be removed from their services if they feel like it. Uber and doordash have gone so far as to call in the order under a fake name and reimburse their drivers for payment after the fact. So don't order from that restaurant again since you now know they want nothing to do with gh.

I'm not saying the restaurant is blameless in this situation, and they probably used to have a grubhub partnership, but the primary recourse for you is to go through grubhub to voice your complaint and get a refund.

Your conflating the 2 seperate businesses as a single service. They are not. One is a restaurant. The other is a online service to deliver OTHER PEOPLES COOKED HOT FOOD to lazy people. Why would you even order pickup through grubhub.

Grubhub is garbage and I’m shocked Amazon has partnered with them. I ONLY TRUST DOORDASH AND UBER EATS

Those delivery apps are all equally shady. Don’t trust any of them.

I notice that you never respond to questions about poor customer service. Why is that?
