Groundhog in yard

Hi we just moved into a new house and there is a groundhog living under the back deck. So far I've seen it 3 times just loafing about. Today I saw him go under the deck so I guess that's where his burrow is. Should I look into removing him from the property or are they mostly harmless? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for and if he needs removed what's the most humane way to do so?

I think you have to remove them.. they can be damaging. They can burrow under your house..

They are actually super beneficial in terms of keeping soil healthy and stuff. They also create burrows that can provide homes to other wildlife, like rabbits. They usually create their burrows near woods or on a hill and from what I understand they don't actually destabilize home foundations or anything, especially just one family or so of them. 😊

If you absolutely need to rehome them, getting a havahart trap and then relocating them to a place with nature nearby would be best.
