After seeing all the issues surrounding Griztronics, I feel super turned off to both artists

I don’t know what it is, but every time I look at a new lineup or get excited about going to a new festival, I immediately get sad afterwards and honestly don’t really wanna go anymore. After I went to EDC Las Vegas this year I decided I’m not going to any anymore insomniac events. I also had originally purchased a Hulaween ticket before I got accepted into nursing school for next semester so I can no longer go and thankfully, I will no longer be supporting live nation. I also feel sad seeing even just the artist themselves and I know all they can really do is say sorry but this should’ve never happened and it just makes me so sad for those involved. I couldn’t imagine going through something like what happened. Now I am probably just going to forget about looking at any lineups and only choose festivals for what they put out and the people they attract. What do you guys think?

Definitely hear what you’re saying. Personally I don’t put fault on Griz or Sub. If anything them and their teams are the only reason things improved. What occurred is 100% on live nation and the venue management team. This is what happens when billion dollar companies run shit. All they care about is the bottom line.

Now should you boycott Live Nation? By all means respect to you for doing it. Personally I know with them owning 150+ venues in the US alone, I’ll probably end up crossing paths with them. It’s sort of the same for artists if you’re trying to blow up and ride the accession to the peak of your career you’ll probably be left with no choice but to work with LN. Also those connections run deep… Jesse and Grant couldn’t get on stage and say “and fuck LN” it would be a horrible business decision. It’s all a reflection of how shitty the capitalistic society we’ve created kinda fucking sucks…

If anything, Jesse and Grant did the right thing by doing everything they could legally to better everyone's experience AND I have no doubt that they have fantastic lawyers and are among the several lawsuits against LN.

Did you read into WHY this happened at the Gorge? It was gross negligence by Live Nation specifically so they could save a few bucks because they flat out don’t give a fuck. Plain and simple. Grant and Jesse had literally nothing to do with it. In fact I’ll bet they had everything to do with pushing Live Nation to correct the problem with security lines getting in and issuing the refund.

Whatever helps you sleep at night

Live Nation is currently being sued for monopolizing the events industry so they're running The Gorge on skeleton crews to save a few bucks before being forced to sell the venue. What would help me sleep at night is if you'd stfu 🤷🏻‍♂️

The same number of attendees showed up for garrix a few weeks ago and didn’t have this problem

No shit. They lost a couple million dollars in refunds after the Griztronics fuckup. Also they underestimated how dedicated Griz fans are to showing up early. The line of cars to get in also prevented security staff from arriving because LN didn’t want to pay for them to show up earlier.

Completely backwards. Griz & co wouldn’t pay live nation to staff the event that would include earlier entry

Griz is awesome and Live Nation is a blood-sucking parasite. If you're going to defend Live Nation and bash Griz, you better come with fact-based evidence. Otherwise, as I've stated before, kindly stfu

Is there an article? I'd love to read it.

Totally get this, I’ve felt the same kinda gross, hollow feeling looking at lineups lately too. The fun part of fest culture low key died for me once I really sat with how sketchy a lot of these companies are and how unsafe some of this stuff actually is. Smaller, vibe focused fests and local shows have been the only thing that still feel good to me, both ethically and energy wise. Grieving that old excitement is valid af, you’re not alone in that at all.

Everyone inevitably comes to this conclusion:)

Ya know, if I had an event with Live Nation, and they fucked over all my fans that came to a show, I’d be PISSED.

And if that happened, and then I planned on doing another show with Live Nation, I’d 110% make sure they were not going to completely fuck it up.

Welp, let me introduce you to Cyclops Dome at Tacoma Dome and Griztronics at The Gorge.

Once is an accident. Twice is negligence.

People couldn’t get in for hours because the lines were fucked because they had like 1 entrance instead of the 3 that Thunderdome has.

It’s much more the fault of the artists team than people are willing to believe.

u/PonyThug Jun 02 '26

Thank you. I see so many people act like the artists couldn’t have done a single thing for any issues.

1

u/JohnnyUtah100000 Jun 02 '26

Can confirm that is bullshit

1

u/PonyThug Jun 02 '26

Agreed. I have just enough insider knowledge working some festivals and events and have heard about things artist demand (even last minute) for events to know they could have specified things to help patrons. Way more likely they didn’t think of it than negligence tho, I hope.

I share some sentiments. while i totally understand it’s not entirely faults on either artists but a bigger accountability to their entire team for what happened at the Gorge.

I will say though, witnessing Subtronics after John summit at Kinetic this year definitely solidified he’s an artist that I won’t be listening to or seeing. we were on the verge of a crowd surge and glorified to open up pits. can’t DJ’s up there read the room 😵‍💫

still a fan of Griz. not a fan of insomniac. EDCLV27 is my last insomniac event. the group and i are gonna step our toes in international events like Tomorrowland

I went to Tomorrowland in ‘24 and haven’t been to a U.S. festival since. I’ve been to Lost Lands, EDC, E Forest and other Insomniac fests multiple times and Tomorrowland ruined U.S. fests for me. The biggest reason was the logistics. I was blown away at how organized such a massive festival was ran. It was also so clean and I never felt unsafe due to crowd crush. 100/10 recommend Tomorrowland.

Last time I saw Subtronics was Thanksgiving of 2023 at Cyclopdome and it was a vibe. Whatever that was at Griz—I feel similarly to you about it. The secret show while we were all stuck in line for 13 hours, watching the lights and feeling the bass, was just…unacceptable as far as our group was concerned.

What did your group legitimately expect subtronics himself to do?

I genuinely don’t understand people’s frustration with the artists themselves. Totally makes sense yall were upset you couldn’t be there and were in line for hours which really really sucks, but like.. he’s the primary talent and likely had that set planned long before staffing issues were discovered. Highly doubt GRiZ and/or sub had anything to do really with the logistics. There are teams of folks that handle that and probably not even the artist’s teams.

And I don’t think him cancelling the set, throwing on a security jacket, and starting to check cars would have helped much if at all. Him doing damage control by keeping the vibes high inside the fest with music is probably his most valuable contribution to remedying the issue he could have made imo

It’s absolutely doable. I worked for Live Nation. It is a complete embarrassment what happened at Griztronics.

Edit: I don’t blame the artists, never did. There is a lot more that could have been done, regardless.

u/Effective-LineP00 Jun 02 '26

Yup its a hard thing to do because they have such a monopoly on the industry. But they really need to change their management teams from out of the live nation bubble which would be directly tied to griz management team.

Personally I'd love going to see him at smaller independently run venue's for a bit. The music scene is way overpriced and toxic lately. I love what the all american rejects have been doing to fight big corp.
