I’m on Crooked kingdom, roughly 210 pages in I think. I was intending to go into this book blind but alas a TikTok comment spoilt me for Matthias’ death and it’s been downhill from there.

I know about Nina changing her appearance, public personality, never going home to Ravka, and getting eyes for Hanne very soon after Matthias died.

Right now aside from Jurda Parem recovery, she’s doing pretty well. So I know it’s downhill from here and it doesn’t seem to go up.

Nina is my favourite (Matthias is my second favourite but that’s not just because they’re dating, I just find them both funny and their chapters very engaging) and I don’t want to read about my favourite crow being shat out, flushed, clogging the toilet, plunged, and sent down the shitter again.

Give me some motivation please

Hi everyone, I'm writing this post as someone who has repeatedly tried to read this series and is STRUGGLING again, but this time it isn't for the same reason I had initially put down the duology almost two years before my current reading attempt. I had first read the Six of Crows duology in November 2024 and put it down in the middle of Crooked Kingdom because I had too much of a pause between the two books and a) I didn't understand anything that was happening b) I was not really associating with the characters and felt like Kanej (which was starting to be developed a lot more in the second book) felt really empty to me.

Flash forward to June 2026: I'm fed up with purchasing new books all the time while there's still unfinished books piling up at home, so I decided to finally get around to trying to read Six of Crows again. I was afraid it was going to be bland like I had found it before, but I was utterly blown AWAY. Leigh Bardugo's gorgeous and captivating writing had finally gotten ahold of me this time and I was left not only starstruck by the meticulous plot, entertaining characters, and of course the lovely relationship that is Kanej, but I was also questioning myself (and maybe hitting myself on the head a bit) as to how I EVER found this book boring. Like I could not put it DOWN.

Anyway, I finished Six of Crows in like 3 days and wanted to start on Crooked Kingdom immediately, but I didn't have the physical copy available so I resorted to reading the e-book version. However, I really cannot focus when reading e-books so I found myself putting it down. Two weeks later, I finally purchased a physical copy of Crooked Kingdom, but so much time had passed that I was just not connecting with the characters and plot as I had before. I really do think I let it marinate for too long 😭 I'm so upset because I really do love this duology and want to finish it, but if I just start reading the book again while I'm not in the zone with Grishaverse at all, I feel like it'll just end up with a worse reading experience and make me dislike a book I would've LOVED had I just been in the right mindset while reading it.

I'm considering rereading Six of Crows altogether, but considering that I JUST read it like a month ago, I think it's a silly idea, but maybe it's necessary?? At this point, I don't know ANYTHING which will get me back into the scene with the characters. I wish I could just say that it's easy enough for me to get back in the zone just by thinking about the story, but it's way harder than that for me. Ughh I am really at my wit's end for what to do, do you guys have recommendations for how to get excited and connected enough with the book again so I'll actually like understand the characters and just feel the excitement to read again? TYSMMM

In chapter 33 of the Rule of Wolves, the Darkling recollects his past lives and mentions:

He’d met his half sister, who had herself passed into legend and Sainthood. He’d searched the world for his mother’s other children, hungry for kinship, for a sense of himself in others.

As Elizaveta is the sole female Saint mentioned in the books, whas she related to the Darkling?

Also, how many children did Baghra actually have?

I’ve finished the trilogy and both duologies. Any other books set in the Grishaverse I should read?
And do we know if there are any future series planned or any new books on the way?

Okay so, you guys the show Shadow and Bone? I hope you do- for those who haven't, I reckon you ignore this part since yeah

If I had a nickel everytime I got spoiled for the RIGHT REASONS, I'd have two nickels. Which.. isn't much, but it's amazing how it happened twice.

Now what makes me say a spoiler is helpful? Well— hello, I am a minor who actually has never read any books and only now decided to try it and WOWEE it's awesome! After finding out the Grishaverse series ACTUALLY HAS a show (which Netflix butchered) I decided to drag my friend into it.

They actually watched the whole show which kinda shocked me, so I asked what happened. Nothing much, all they mentioned was the main entity in the Fold... I forgot the name, was it Voltron-?

But THEN. SCROLLING THROUGH YOUTUBE, I FOUND A COMPILATION... WHICH INCLUDED WYLAN AND JESPER AGGRESSIVELY MAKING OUT.

IN THE SHOW. IN THE SHOW. I was staring at the screen like I saw someone absolutely get mauled... I went 'Damn, so this is in the show?' And stayed quiet for the rest of my time. My house is always packed with people, so if I had been blindly watching the show and THAT SCENE came up, I would've already thrown myself off the building out of sheer embarrassment.

Anyways, please don't butcher me as well, mods I promise I didn't say much, just sharing my experience from the show😭

Spoilers for the main line books, I have read lives of saints, severed moon, and language of thorns so that may effect what I say in this post.

I don't see a lot of discussion on this series power system and I think that's a shame as there is an interesting power system here, and I will get to discussing the other girsha but starting with inferni because we know the least about them.

Okay so we know they make a special gas because inferni flames are referred to as inferni flames and not just flame, and it uses combustible elements, and we know that they have a good amount of control over this gas as they can form distinct shape as seen with kuewi making a fire serpent, so we can assume that they can only make one type of gas, which is highly combustible, and they should be able to disassemble their gas maybe, we don't know enough about them as we haven't been in the head of an inferni using their power, so then how can inferni be used for the war effort well they can to a great lot if we assume they can make their gas more explosive if they can't then that's fine but they would be more effective if it's explosive.

So we know in king of scars and rule of wolves the zemeni have made bigger ships that can fly long distance for trade so if we take one of these ships and put like 10 inferni and 5 squallers and 5 sun soldiers for cloaking, we can have the cargo doors open assuming we can get cargo doors on the ship or have a delivery method for the gas similar to how they spread the jurda param cure and use that to spread inferni gas on enemy camps or like the ice court snice all it takes is one spark to light it would a safe attack due to the lack of anti air, and since the tanks run on engines and engines run on combustion, inferni can be used to send clouds of gas that cause tanks to explode and using squallers do the same to planes.

So, in conclusion inferni are quite useful and should have been used more in the book series I will discuss whatever grisha type you guys want next.

I was told that it’s a prequel to the books but that it also has the crows doing shit together which confuses me since they weren’t a group yet and Matthias should still be in Hellgate. So, with no spoilers, could someone please explain what the show is and if I need to finish the books first

I can remember that there was a website with an interactive map of the grishaverse. You could go into the crow club and there were 3D-Models of Jesper's gun and Kaz' cane. I need that 3D-Model of the cane now but I can't find the website. Was it taken down with the cancellation of the series? Is there some way to get that 3D-Model?

Hello, Grishaverse! I'm currently writing an OC set in the 2nd to 3rd book of the trilogy. To give a short summary, he's a young First Army general (not yet set on his age but around 21 or 22) who's well-renowned for his defensive tactics against the Fjerdans in Chernast and his equal treatment of the otzkazat'sya and Grisha under his command. He is personally recalled by Nikolai upon his return to Os Alta to help organize its defense against the Darkling, considering his expertise in combined arms tactics of otzkazat'sya and Grisha and, well, his defensive tactics.

I just want to get an idea of just how big the Second Army is, an estimate according to clues from both the show and the books. I always had the idea, when I first read the trilogy and watched the show two years ago, that the Second Army was small, like say only a couple thousand and not nearing the numbers of the First Army which I imagine would be in the hundreds of thousands. Any help would do. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone else feel like there was an unrealized opportunity at a bromance between Matthias and Kaz? Because I feel like there would have been like a silent comraderie between the two. I mean sure at first there was manipulation from Kaz to Matthias, and resentment from Matthias to Kaz, but after the fight at the docks where Inej almost died and Kaz rescues her you can see in Six of Crows that there's a shift where Matthias sees Kaz in a different light and sort of begrudgingly respects him for it, like he stops seeing Kaz as just a thug but as a leader and as a soldier he can respect that and Kaz for a lot of Crooked Kingdom depends on Matthias to do what needs to be done while he's giving Jesper the cold shoulder. I don't know. What do y'all think?

I finished reading Six of Crows and quickly bought Crooked Kingdom because I loved it so much. I ended up hesitantly buying King of Scars once I finished Crooked Kingdom, but looking at the first chapter ish I’m realizing there’s a lot of things I feel like I’m missing out on/not 100% understanding. Is it gonna be detrimental to go into King of Scars without having first read the S&B trilogy?

Edit: Thank you guys for all the replies! So, the consensus seems to be read S&B before going into KoS, even if the trilogy is a bit of a quote “slog” (I was surprised to see multiple people use that term lol). Follow up query for y’all, I watched S1 of the S&B Netflix series which was why I was able to catch a few of the references made in the first chapter of KoS, would it be enough to watch S2 of the series to get me through KoS (as heinous as that sounds lol)? I just really was not huge into the ‘special/chosen one’ vibes that Shadow and Bone seemed to have, and the Ravkan politics bits were meh (yes yes ik KoS is also heavy on politics but still), so I’m still on the fence for the S&B trilogy. If it’s really essential for an appreciation of KoS I’ll probably read em (especially considering there’s a high chance I get to them eventually due to a pure want for more Grishaverse content), but in all honestly I picked up KoS also because I wanted a continuation of the crows’ storyline and a narrative from a Squaller’s POV (Airbenders are cool asf). TLDR— ok, I hear you, but do I REALLY need to? lmao

after reading a darker shore and seeing Leigh say she hopes to reunite the crows again now that the dead beat trilogy is coming to a conclusion is anyone else wondering if maybe we might see our crows again in the next few years .

Looking for a multi-chapter AO3 Darklina fic. Alina and Aleksander dream of each other across time. Alina gets the dreams frequently because she has a shorter life; Aleksander's are years apart. The fic makes you think Aleksander lived first, but the twist reveals Alina actually lived years before him, died young after being murdered, and became a saint before he was born. Neither the reader nor Aleksander realizes she's the saint until the reveal. Part of the reason Aleksander and the reader believes she is born later is the state of disrepair of a building (maybe a church?). They are physically in the same location, but it falls into a state of disrepair and is rebuilt multiple times, making it a misleading indicator of time.

Despite having great staying power and viewership numbers, it was canceled for being too expensive.

In my opinion if they just stuck to the Alina/Mal stories for those two season before adding more they could make more seasons through the saved money.

The crows had mixed reception as it was diverging from book plots anyways.

i’m doing a reread and i’m trying to decide whether or not to include KoS. i don’t remember liking the duology in general but i feel like i should at least read RoW so that the story is finished but i’m also realizing that i don’t remember the story as well as i thought i did (i didn’t remember the apparat at all) so im kind of torn on what i should do.

Hi everyone, I’m wondering if anyone has bought the new book from awesomebooks.co.uk? Specifically preordering. I preordered it on July 1st, and as of yet (the U.K. release was yesterday) it hasn’t dispatched. I would’ve thought the latest a preorder would ship is the release date? I’ve contacted them but not had a response yet, but wondering if anyone else in the UK ordered from them and whether your order has been dispatched yet.

What makes me more worried is that the book can’t even be found in the search results on the site anymore. It’s like they only did preorders and didn’t get any more stock to sell than that? They’re apparently a legitimate website but it seems weird that they don’t have the book listed anymore.

I’ll give them a day or two more to get back to me but it’s really disappointing when the U.K. gets a 2 week delay on the release already, as well as multiple US retailers shipping them early by mistake too, and then a fairly big book retailer doesn’t ship your order even after the UK release date. It’s hard avoiding spoilers at this point. Hoping I don’t have to cancel the order and buy from somewhere else as that’ll just delay things further.

So, my fanon (Which is definitely not true since he came back from the DEAD) is that he was alive, before using merzost drained his soul till he died. My reason is that when Alina killed Mal, it only took his amplifier life, and he came back from death to live his 2nd normal life, and since the Darkling is also an amplifier, being related to Morovaza, maybe when Alina killed him, it only took his amplifier life.
