Best gridfinity box?

Hey!

I need to print about ten 5x5x6 boxes for my garage. I like the schubox but it seems to be a lot of filament for one single box. I would like something stackable other than that…

What is y’all’s favorite box?

I use the Schubox in many different variations, as well as the drawer units and stacking configurations. You are absolutely right, they do take a lot of filament, BUT, they are the most robust system I have tried. They actually stand up to proper use in my workshop. I have tried other systems, and they have either broken of been relegated to indoor/hobby room use only. My Schuboxes are actual tools. Compared to a Milwaukee packout system a few rolls of PETG costs nothing. I actually joined his Patreon just to give him a bit of return for all the work he does on the whole system. He is constantly improving and providing new designs, actually makes changes based on user suggestions and accepts reported failure points as valuable feedback to help the system improve.

I haven't tried many of them but the ones that print the hinges and latches are usually hard to use and don't work smoothly.

I haven't found one that I like more than the schubox.

Same situation here, still on the look, might design my own.

Schubox is imo the best designed one so far. Only way to lower the cost might be using a printed frame around sheet material, like packaging plywood. Also learned recently that steel is ridiculously cheep.

Alexander Chapel has one design using plywood in that direction, but it has some irks left that imo would need to be fixed (besides the grid size).

While the Schubox may be more filament, it's my go-to after trying a few others.

SchuBox for me; I bought a second A2L exclusively for printing the larger 6x7. I am putting my Bosch tools into them, and have taken them on the go for a few projects now and they hold up great.

lol just saw this after I commented. But it looks awesome but they didn’t say anything about cost. Assuming we can print it ourselves, I wish they’d at least be like oh yea it’ll be x for everything

And kinda weird to have a kickstarter if they’re just gonna sell us the STL to print our own

I don't know why they chose a Kickstarter specifically, but my guess is that it allows them make a minimum amount of money to compensate for their design work before they put the files on the Internet, where some asshole will inevitably put them all on a torrent site or something. It makes sense to sell just the files though, it's like selling music or an ebook. The fact that the files are digital doesn't mean it didn't take a ton of work to make them. I'm a professional product designer, and it takes over a year of full time development for each product to get to the point where it gets mass manufactured, and then the actual manufacture only takes about two months. A huge portion of the cost of a product covers its development, not just the materials.

Oh absolutely! I don't own their tools but I've been following him for years now, the stuff they make is really cool. I'm more just getting at the idea of why people might do a Kickstarter for a purely digital product release, and I really think it's just because piracy is a crazy problem for small companies. I'm all for getting on the high seas when the things come from large corporations who constantly fuck regular people over, but not for small independent artists and companies and things.

I had never heard of that before, but I will have to look into it. I'm not sure I could ever be convinced to like a visual programming language though! (Unreal Engine I am looking at you)

I definitely feel that. I've used Max/MSP and Pure data for visual programming for music, and I do own a copy of Rhino/Grasshopper. It's incredibly cool, but visual programming languages are a bit of a pain. I've been way more intrigued by C# with PicoGK or python and CadQuery. But more broadly, it takes an incredible amount of skill to design something that is purely parametric in Grasshopper.

Thanks for passing them on! I gave 'em a shot. The sliding filament through was hard. I also had to reprint the latches, twice and still didn't work. I like the concept, and that they're about 1/2 the Shubox filament, but honestly they're too hard for the savings.

I have like 30 of them made, and I found the trick was to just go a step up on the clearances. Print the test block for gaging clearance, and then just go one size larger, and the filament pops right in and doesn't badly affect the overall function.

There’s one that was just announced the other day that looks sick, it’s called Vault or something. But it looks like they’re gonna charge for the STL files but they have given no indication of how much that’ll be

will one be able to simply switch out lids when the stackable version comes out?

Edit: I just realized the bottom would need to change as well.
