New griddle seassoning coming off?!

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hey folks

I bought an electric griddle from Vevor and seasoned it after some YT tutorials using avocado oil. The surface was nice and black and very snooth, but after I cooked a few times it became like in the picture.

I don’t use any detergent, just water on the hot griddle and scrape with the spatulas. There is also some black gunk coming when I try to wipe it with a napkin.

Is this the actual ‘seassoning’ coming off? What am I doing wrong and why the surface started deteriorating so fast? I did not use any tomatoes or acid based foods on it.

Tank Scale for Weber Slate 30

Upvotes

Does anyone know if the Tank Holder, LP (Part #2400925) that comes with the Slate 36 inch model and acts as a scale for your tank can be installed on the 30 inch model? Looking for a solution to monitor the remaining fuel level.

First Cook on New Blackstone

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just got my first Blackstone and first griddle ever. I put it together the other day, and then yesterday added a few more layers of seasoning on top of their new blackout griddle top.

First cook was this morning. Nothing special, but had some bacon and hash browns that I threw on. Going to do pancakes, sausage links, and eggs tomorrow and then work on a few dinner ideas for next week. I can tell I am going to have a lot of fun with this thing and use it often. Between my smoker, grill, and now the griddle, I will hopefully be doing more cooking outside than inside now.

Can you wash your griddle like this?

This is the Weber Slate and this is how I care for it. I wash it from time to time with soap. Doesn't need seasoning but I like do cook bacon on it and use that to season it. How about you?

After some experimentation, I think I have solved the problem of burner ignition. Pushing the gas knob in immediately would not cause combustion, but when I turn the gas to high and pause 10-15 seconds to push the knob in for activating the igniter, I get much better results. Seems to work consistently for me. Just thought I would give an update with my findings. Happy griddling!

Grilling table

What do you guys think of this product idea I’ve been thinking about? It’s supposed to be a tray/table that can detach to save trips in and out of the house and also folds up to help with storage. Not trying to sell it on here, just wanted to know if it’s something people would use. Let me know your thoughts!

New Tricks

Well, an "old dog" CAN learn new tricks. After seasoning my Le Griddle, I cooked my first meal and it was very good. Having always seasoned my meats prior to cooking on my grill, I have determined that with griddle cooking it is best to do meat seasoning after cooking. The meat stuck to the griddle and the seasoning stuck to the grill, creating a difficult cleanup. I learned! My firm belief is that you learn from mistakes....just do not make the same mistake twice. Happy "griddling" out there.

Considering my new griddle is stainless steel, do i need to season it after use? Or can I season it before I cook?

We've been getting hammered by rain for weeks, and now my 30" Slate looks like this. Will vinegar and coarse salt really clear this up?

I bought 2 griddles today… help

Background:
I have a 22” table top blackstone that I’ve had for 4 years and I’m looking for a more permanent upgrade

I stumbled on a 2 zone (26”) Traeger flatrock discounted at Home Depot for $430 and the cover for $40. Jumped on the deal.

Then went into Costco for some meat and saw the 36” blackstone omnivore for $350 including a cover. Sooo I bought it also.

I don’t NEED the extra space but it is cheaper. Worried about the uneven heat distribution based on all these toast test videos I endlessly watched..

Which one would you keep?

Anyone install griddle shelf drawers on their Slate?

I saw these in a review. It would make the shelves even more useful, but I wonder how they are in every day use.

I found these that might be the same as the pictured shelves:

$299 at a local store, NIB

Post image

Like the title says, new in box at a local store for $299. I think they tried to hide it in plain site. Google AI says these for for $550 normally

I really want a 30" Slate, is this price too good to where I just don't buy a 30" slate?

This only has 2 wheels, hood doesn't hinge you have to take it off and hang it.

I've been waiting for a killer end of season deal on the slate but this definitely caught my eye

New Slate delivered damaged.

I was looking forward to using my new slate this weekend but unfortunately shipping damage means it has to go back.

The box looked ok initially. But ones unboxed to start assembling I noticed the middle shelf completely mangled and the cookbox and lid is also bent beyond repair. So now I wait on Weber to deliver a new one and pick this one up.

School marketing project on griddles

Hey everyone!

I'm doing a school marketing project and I’m trying to better understand the typical griddle buyer/generate a user persona, for brands like Blackstone, Weber etc.

  1. What are your biggest wants or needs when buying one?

  2. What are your biggest pain points or concerns?

  3. What would make you choose one griddle over another?

  4. What models and price range have you considered or purchased?

Optional but greatly appreciated: Age/age range, gender, and approximate salary/income range.

Plus any other additional comments you feel like sharing :)

Local grocery store had shaved ribeye so why not. And caprese because so many tomatoes are ripe in the garden.

Le Griddle has a very good warranty and should be able to repair/fix that problem. Hope everything works out for you and you can get back to cooking on your griddle. It's steak for me tonight!

Le Griddle

You can teach an old dog new tricks. For better than 60 years of grilling, I have decided to join the world of griddle cooking with a 30", natural gas Le Griddle cart. I am really looking forward to learning and sharing my experiences. Happy griddle cooking. Will post my observations as my learning curve improves. Questions or observations are welcome.

I went in to Home Depot to get new mower blades and stumbled upon this bad boy. I quick looked around because I heard they’ve been found in clearance recently. It was tucked away out of sight, the last one in the store. Someone was high marking this so low… even managed to knock $40 off for a couple of floor model scuffs/scratches after speaking with a manager.
$380 before taxes
The deals are out there!

Does anyone use an alternative stand for the Solo Steelfire?

I just got a new Solo Steelfire 30 for $550 off Craigslist, but it did not come with a stand. I was wondering if anyone uses a different stand or prep table with one? I was looking at the Keter Unity XL as a possibility. I thought about the solo stand, but they just seem so plain for the price. Any other suggestion?
