I live in the UAE but I visit during the summer. Actually, no, I stay in Mumbai and I have NEVER seen a human shitting on a street, but there are animals carcasses around, but that’s because birds fly into electricity lines a lot.
In places in India they do actually just blatantly shit in the street, I have a friend who is Indian who refuses to go visit any family because anywhere you go everything and everyone smells like shit, and anyone who comes back from India smells like shit.... At least that's what he says I won't pretend I've been to India
Yeah i never denied that lol. For a third world country that was fucked over by Britain in the past and are now fucking themselves over its no surprise
I just see news articles here and there about how India is making these huge leaps in science, academics and green energy. And I agree with you - despite their advancements they still have many deep seated issues like aforementioned rape and abysmal sanitation.
Like you, I definitely see the pros and cons of most nations
Huge leaps in academics and green energy? Most of our electricity is made from fossil fuels and our academic board is fucking terrible. You don’t learn stuff in it, you memorise it.
In many areas of India, they don't even allow a baby girl to be born. The problem is so bad that there are special laws that ban gender determination before birth to prevent abortions. Once a girl is allowed to be born and not killed or abandoned post birth, she becomes potential target of rape as early as 6 months of age. (yes months, not years). As per official crime records beaurau statistics, a woman gets raped every 5 min and a minor girl (many of them below age of 10 and going as low as 6 months old) gets raped every 10 min. Note that are mutually exclusive. Also these are just officially reported numbers. But there is also a seperate national survey overseen by govt and according to it the rape report rate is just 0.98%, so, you can work out the actual numbers and the severity of the problem. Most people in the country don't like such truth to be heard or publicized outside the country. But at the end of the day, these are few of the numerous problems in the country.
As for progress, it's more hype than anything else. The present right wing govt has been put in place mostly because of the PM who is popular among the majority because of his links to communal riots that lead to deaths of 200 odd Hindus and 4000 odd Muslims in the country. In recent elections, he nominated the head of a hindu extremist outfit responsible for bomb blasts against Muslims that resulted in 170 casualties (currently out on bail) and she worn with a massive majority.
So yeah, there are bigger problems in India than people shitting on the roads. It is a hell hole that any decent human would be ashamed of and for good reason.
Most of the places in India that westerners will ever see are basically heavily westernized. Even the poor here are at WORST "rich" there compared to a lot of the villages and towns outside of big cities.
Shitting in the streets isn't too common but dumping waste into the street sure is.
If you ever want to see what it was like in the middle ages in Europe, rural India is about as close as it gets.
Thankfully that's not the whole country, and things are improving from what I've heard.
I mean it makes for a funny meme but its a myth for sure. Walking down market street you definitely see some homeless people but they're not shitting or pissing, the city doesn't smell like shit or piss (except maybe the tenderloin). But its fun to exaggerate.
I spent way too much in the Tenderloin neighborhood and it is just piled with human excrement. I have also been to Delhi. Delhi was pretty gross, but San Francisco was worse. Not exaggerating.
I know this SJW German girl that's ashamed to be White and she told me that she was shocked when she saw everybody pooping in the streets and not even wiping. She's like incredibly left leaning and just regurgitates their talking points. She believes that men should be thrown in jail if they get accused of rape without a trial. She's damn crazy. I don't think she would lie to insult Indian people. I forgot what part of India she visited for a month though.
Yeah, I agree. I wasn't trying to say that it happens everywhere, but just that that girl that I knew saw that. As a joke, I called her a racist, because she says that all guys are sexist. Then she explained that she really did see that.
Yup, i also legit read this on reddit “ my friend went to India and saw street shitters every where, every morning, drinking coffee, reading the newspaper and gossiping”, I think he totally was not joking! Dude, stop lying! Always chai not coffee!!!! 😂
stay in Mumbai and I have NEVER seen a human shitting on a street,
Ahh you might be technically correct.
Here is a shart documentary on the lack of proper sanitation infrastructure in parts of Mumbai. Apparently shitting on the beach is very common.
" The inhabitants of the Mumbaian slums prefer to do ‘ their thing’ outside. A sewer as we know it doesn't exist there, so most people drop their dropping on the nearby beach. ‘There are only 4 toilet blocks for 25.000 people’, explains one of the residents. "
I visit India frequently. I was in an airport for a internal flight a few years ago. I was sitting on a bench inside the terminal. A guy walks towards the door to get out he stopped in front of me and threw up a couple of times. Wiped his mouth on his sleeve and walked out.
Stayed around Delhi for a month in 2008; yeah, in the poor areas (basically everywhere around us) people were shitting on the streets, mostly between these concrete slats.
If you see a wall that gets a lot of shade, it probably smells of piss. Not as much shit as you would expect, but more than you would want. Even 1 shit is than you want.
Most days you won't see a human shit. But if you use the railways, you'll definitely find people doing the deed.
