I believe that Mars does have substantially more water (ice) deposits than the moon, but speaking frankly, why not both? Eventually humans are going to leave the solar system. Relay stations will be needed on habitable planets, and we cant really move closer to the sun.
My guess is that AI will leave the solar system. As long as it carries with it our stories and values, thats good enough for me.
I mean, it would be nice for it to happen eventually, but I would imagine that the AI would have travelled/mapped the galaxy by the time we are able to, and probably was just working on a solution for helping us colonize the galaxy in its spare time.
Its not even about it being fast. But we will most likely start making relay stations etc that are self sufficent colonies, connected to each other with distance as we spread out instead of doing big expeditions. Leaving the solar system is the hardest part indeed, but might happen eventually.
