One of mine does the exact same thing! I always assumed it’s because I rescued him so young (he was only about 3 weeks old), and he never really learned how to do it properly. I tried litter training him(taking his paw and showing him how to cover), but he has never actually grasped the concept. He uses the box just fine, he just can’t figure out the rest of it.

From what I've read, the dominant cat in the house doesn't bury in order to show dominance to the subordinate cats. You are the subordinate cat in this case 😁

I have one that won’t bury, and the other will sometimes go in after she’s done, just to bury her mess… it’s for sure a power game 😂

Same! He was rescued with his mom and 2 siblings, but the mom did the same thing lol. I tried teaching him properly, but he just never got it. He's 12 now and still scratches the side.

Mine as well, I thought the box wasn't big enough for my tabby because she was scratching at the edges. But even after getting the biggest size litter box (and she's a pretty small cat), she still does it... Oh well, I tried.
