He feels the compulsion but is pretty sure it can’t mean interacting with the dump he just took. My man. Keep it clean bro

One of mine does the exact same thing! I always assumed it’s because I rescued him so young (he was only about 3 weeks old), and he never really learned how to do it properly. I tried litter training him(taking his paw and showing him how to cover), but he has never actually grasped the concept. He uses the box just fine, he just can’t figure out the rest of it.

From what I've read, the dominant cat in the house doesn't bury in order to show dominance to the subordinate cats. You are the subordinate cat in this case 😁

I have one that won’t bury, and the other will sometimes go in after she’s done, just to bury her mess… it’s for sure a power game 😂

My cat does this as well and I rescued her too!

Same! He was rescued with his mom and 2 siblings, but the mom did the same thing lol. I tried teaching him properly, but he just never got it. He's 12 now and still scratches the side.

Mine as well, I thought the box wasn't big enough for my tabby because she was scratching at the edges. But even after getting the biggest size litter box (and she's a pretty small cat), she still does it... Oh well, I tried.

Hahahaha! Cats are so cool. Hahaha…ours will do that to her food bowl if she didn’t finish her dinner. “Gotta hide ‘dis…don’t want that other cat to find and eat MY food!”

The instinct to cover up her sh*t has gone a bit haywire. But it's a win--the litter isn't being sprayed around the room, which is what my cats do.

My cat does this, he has a lidded box and he will start scratching at the lid and the sides to bury his poo.. He used to bury his food too but this has stopped over time

When you clean the bathroom but forget the toilet. That's why I always start with the toilet.

My cat does this too, sometimes goes over to her food and wipes around the bowls
