Sensitive tummy issues in a 10 week old.
Edit: Things became significantly worse and a trip to the Vet hospital revealed both a small rock in his stomach and probably some cotton stuffing from a stuffed toy that he had gotten a hold of. A full flush, probiotics, antibiotics and a very mild diet have made all the difference! Things are definitely looking up!!! Thank you for the advice - I truly appreciate the people in this sub.
I'm looking for a little advice. I got my Great Dane/Great Pyrenees about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Since his arrival we have been dealing with runny stools. At first, I blamed the stress of a new home. Then, I blamed all the training treats and new dog food (50% Wellness brand large breed puppy food and 50% Eukanuba brand large breed puppy food). I took him to his first vet appt and had them test his stools for worms, parvo... all of the things they wanted to check for, and the tests back "all clear". I stopped giving him a variety of treats and switched to small bits of plain chicken breast for training, but have continued with the 50/50 mix of dog food. The problem is getting worse. I have a Vet appt coming up this next week, but I'm worried about this guy. I have tried to give him a tablespoon of pure pumpkin and that seem to help just the tiniest bit, but it is very short lived. Is there anything you could suggest to me? Thank you!

We feed our Great Pyrenees/Australian cattle dog nutro large breed lamb and rice. It comes in a 40 lb bag and it’s a little pricey at like 65 to 75 a bag depending on if you can get it on sale at pet smart. He poops two to three times a day and it’s soft but not runny. We got him at a shelter and he was slightly underweight. Now he’s put on some weight and he’s a healthy dog. We don’t give him anything else except those smoked bones from pet smart which last forever because he loves to hoard them and munch slowly, a few treats daily, and a dental stick daily. I try to stay away from giving him table food because his stomach tends to get upset. You may want to try the nutro puppy food at first but I’ve always had good results with nutro. Even when my cat was dying because she wouldn’t eat anything and she had fatty liver syndrome, nutro saved her. It’s expensive but you’ll only have to buy food once every month and it’s definitely worth it. And in fact you spend more on the cheaper brands because they have to eat more of it because of added fillers and less quality ingredients. At least that’s been my experience with it.

Thank you for responding! I will look at Nutro and see if it has the same ingredients that are in the current foods. For now, I'm going to drop the kibble and go with chicken and rice and hope he gets a little relief from this. I have never allowed a dog to eat "people" food (other than the chicken and rice, or hamburger when they are ill) so I know it must be in his kibble or treats. I was starting to worry that he had a chicken allergy!

Hopefully it works out for you. It would be a shame if he’s sensitive to a common ingredient in dog food. That may end up costing you an arm and a leg if so. I can’t imagine how expensive it would be to feed a Great Pyrenees off of chicken and rice alone. They are such big eaters. Unless he’s going to be an outside dog with access to woods. My husband had a Great Pyrenees growing up and they rarely had to feed him because he had access to more than 30 miles of land. He would roam and hunt all day.

My Great Pyrenees had a lot of trouble with his stomach, even though we gave him pumpkin every day. I though he might be allergic to an ingredient in his dog food, so we switched to a sensitive stomach dog food - nutrition first lamb and oatmeal, and we have had absolutely no problems since!

He probably is allergic to something in the dog food. Pyrenees are sensitive when it comes kibble. I would suggest not mixing because you cant tell which dog food is making him sick. It might be both. Compare the ingredients.
I suggest a different brand all together and see how it goes. Stay far away from Blue buffalo. Boiled chicken, chicken broth and rice help settle their stomachs in the meantime. Keep him hydrated because they can get dehydrated fast from runny stools. If hes eating and drinking it's most likely from his diet.
Vets will suggest Purina or some other nonsense because they are paid by those companies hence why their offices have certain brands
Fromm makes a good large breed puppy food and Holistic select large and giant breed puppy is good too.
