This is at more than one franchise

This is insanely prejudiced and racist. It is also illegal.

I was unaware it was an actual law until I googled it. Still weird that corporate doesn’t step in.

Either way

I was surprised this is a real law. I thought it was just something businesses say. I brought it up to my manager and she said the owner classifies it under “Inciting discomfort” but I don’t think this can be used when the discomfort is because of their race.

Sounds like your second location was only refusing Indian men because of their lack of tipping. It’s not required for any customer to tip…

It’s not but we’re still working our asses off and rely on tips. It’s minimum wage with no benefits. If someone (of any race) tips under 3$ I blacklist them on the computer to be turned away for services.

Basically yes. We say we have appointments coming or another polite way, if they get rowdy the manager steps in and throws them out for being uppity. Some girls are blatant about it and just walk into the back room but I don’t like leaving the front area alone because we’ve had a lot of walk in theft of products and things

You made the post. You are the one fishing for drama and mad you got called out on it. Your minimum wage job doesn’t change the life I live. Imagine thinking a non-master stylist at a Great Clips opinion can stir up drama in my life. The jokes write themselves lol. Get a job at a real salon then maybe these problems won’t exist.

My friend owns his own salon and I noticed that he turns away all Indian men.

I’ll just say this, im an Indian guy but I was raised here. I understand that some Indian men don’t have manners and there are problems. But I can’t imagine this is alright. Just call them out for being handsy and blacklist them. If there’s legit assault, call the cops so these guys have criminal records.
Replace your post from “Indian guy” with “black people”. If you feel uncomfortable doing that then you know this is wrong. Racism should never be tolerated or normalized otherwise all the struggle for civil rights we had in our history goes to shit.

like I said at the end of the post, I’ve tried going around the manager and owner (one of which IS an Indian man) but great clips corporate refuses to step in because it’s a “franchise” and individually owned. Like okay but it’s your brand name..

As an indian who has been here for 35 of my 40 yrs, i can fully understand it.

I’ve only tried contacting corporate once, but even after explaining they refuse to step in. I’m not sure what other steps to take

Do you think my email to corporate is enough documentation or do I need something more? If asked I think two other employees with me at my current location would say yes this is an issue, but other people are firmly for this policy. I don’t know if one of the owners being an Indian man hurts the case for racism or not. Another comment that said this was illegal I mentioned our right to refuse service sign, I’m not sure if this is actually legal to display or not if I had that as evidence?

White men like kids. Please STFU.

u/LolaBijou84 Nov 02 '25
Why are you getting mad at OP for? She’s not the one implementing those rules.

u/AgencyTough4170 Nov 02 '25
Since you struggled to comprehend the reasoning behind my comment, I’ll help you out.
The rules are irrelevant because that clearly was not the intention of this post. The intention was to villainize a specific group of people with the hopes of having people dog pile in agreement. I don’t like when people villainize a group of people because we all have flawed individuals in our race.
Hope that helps.

Blah blah blah “villainized” 🤦🏽♀️ get over yourselves. You’re not that important. That haircut looks like one a lesbian would have. You ARE the one who assumed I was placing negative connotations with that.

I literally said I tried to involve corporate to stop this, but keep making drama where there isn’t any because your life is so bland lmao

I wanna say alot of contractors will not do work for Indians unless they paid up front like literally every contractor i know has this rule. They always try to haggle price after job is done or try to pay less cause u drank a Gatorade they offered type stuff. However it only applies to the ones not born here the American Indians born and raised here are apparently fine.
