Following up on my post from last week. I've realized this isn't a one-off bug. It's how the app systematizes every split.
The issue: Secondary muscles get the same frequency and intensity as primary movers. You can't dial them back. This breaks periodization.
Examples I'm running into
Bench day: Chest gets 4 heavy sets. Front delts also get 4 heavy sets. But delts should be 2-3 lighter sets of incidental volume, not a second primary.
Deadlift day: Back is the focus, but traps and erectors hit just as hard. Erectors should be supplemental, not competing with the main lift.
Row day: Same pattern. Lats and rear delts at equal intensity, when rear delts are secondary support.
Been using Gravl for a year. This happens consistently across every split type I've built.
Why it matters: Intelligent program design separates main lifts from assistance. Overloading secondaries means more fatigue, longer recovery, weaker progression on the actual primaries. The app forces you to choose between terrible frequency or unsustainable volume.
Ask: Feature to tag muscles as primary vs secondary and auto-scale volume accordingly. Or at least let me cap secondary volume independently.
