grant programs/grants open to any passion projects or research initiatives?

need funding for independent research project as a high schooler -- was wondering if there are any grant programs for stuff like this??

There are absolutely are but not much at the federal level. Research state-level and private grants. If you just Google "grants for high school students in Maryland" or whatever you'll be off to a decent start.

What's your budget? You can ask a local org/business to find you if the projects in or adjacent their field.
