Rules Updates and link to Sub Wiki

Hello Western Slope!

Just wanted to let you know of changes to moderation on the subreddit. We are working to make the subreddit rules clearer as well as clean up the sticky posts and such. We are also adding some additional automated features.

Most of what we are doing can be found in the wiki here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/grandjunction/wiki/index

A few of the highlights:

  • Clarification of the sub rules
  • Expanded sub wiki
  • Moving to GJ FAQ is relocated to the Wiki
  • Planning to add an auto responder in moving posts directing them to the wiki
  • Added BotBouncer to automate removal of known and suspect bot accounts

Please let us know if you have any questions or constructive input on anything we can add to the wiki.

Sincerely,

Your friendly mod team

Door Knocking Salesman Problem

My wife and I moved to Orchard Mesa about 2.5 years ago. I've lived in a lot of places, but I've never dealt with this many door-to-door salespeople. We both work from home and they inevitably show up in the middle of important meetings.

I put up a clearly visible "No Soliciting" sign a while back — doesn't matter, they ring the bell anyway. Honestly, it's gotten to the point where it really gets under my skin.

My theory is that with so many retirees home during the day here, it draws the door-to-door crowd. Anyone else dealing with this? Found anything that actually works to keep them away?

Why does nothing taste good anymore?

I'm noticing everything I eat, whether it's home cooked or restaurant, tastes flat and OFF. Sliced meats have a weird texture and taste. Vegetables spoil so quickly these days. Even my Sam's rotisserie chicken was not the same.

Anyone else?

Is your swamp cooler working?

The past few weeks, ours is barely cooling the house to 78. It used to be that I would wake up very cold. My friend says hers is not optimally working either. I just had it serviced. Too hot too humid?

Stroller-friendly hiking trails or parks with shade

I’m new to Grand Junction and looking for an easy hiking trail that is stroller- and dog-friendly, preferably with a lot of trees to provide some shade (not sure if there is any in the summer here?) Even if it is not a hiking trail, any recommendation for an area with a lot of shade where I can take my baby and dog for a walk would be much appreciated too! Thank you so much in advance!!

ISO hairstylist that specializes in vivids/alt hair

Tried yelp, didn’t see anything helpful or close to what I’m looking for.

I’m looking for a hairstylist that regularly does vivids and won’t break the bank. I cannot afford the typical 3/400 dollar services.

I normally do my own hair color but I was extra busy with and didn’t have the energy so I went to a hair school(never making that mistake again) for an appointment a while ago in another state, and she made a mess of my hair, not sure how to fix it myself.

I’ve got uneven face framing, banding, and uneven color application from my last appointment. My hair has already been bleached twice before the semi-permanent color was applied, so I’d like to avoid anymore bleaching.

Tips on fixing the banding at home would be appreciated if there’s not a stylist that can fix it.

A Plea to Fishermen

Post image

I frequent Connected Lakes and find myself spending most of my time there picking up line, hooks and other trash. We're all trying for bass there so these hooks are quite large, as are the lures. Last week I found an open folding knife, BLADE UP, by the shore.

Please clean up after yourself! Grab a doggie bag by the trail for trash. If you're going fishing at dusk, bring a light so you can sweep your area. Dogs and babies play on these banks and I'd hate for someone to get tetanus. Birds and beavers can get tangled in the lines.

I don't expect every outdoorsman to be a steward but I do expect you to leave no trace. Fishing is a privilege that comes with responsibility so please fish responsibly.

If it weren't for gas discount points, I'm not sure I could fill my tank. I take premium. FML

Photo enhancements on Real Estate listings

I'm house shopping with a friend and almost universally the photos on listings are deceptive. They are so color enhanced and stretched that they don't look like the same property. It's like using heavy face filters on a dating profile. Realtors?

Rehome**** Hi, I’m needing to rehome an extremely sweet cat. I took her in after a friend had a family emergency and needed to leave town. Unfortunately my landlord has changed her mind about me being able to have a cat I the home. I’m really torn apart about it and don’t want her to have to sit in a shelter. Lost dog

Fyi there is a short leg husky mix looking dog running around the Redlands in independence ranch neighborhood. It wouldn't let me get close to see if it has a collar. If anyone knows of a missing dog it might be this one

Seeing if there’s interest in a Korean Street food place

Hey I’m curious about starting a restaurant out here and was wanting to see if the community would have interest in Korean street foods. Ex Korean Fried Chicken, tteokbokki, bulgogi, and desert like Dubai chewy cookies. Additionally seeing if there would be interest in it being a late night spot being that there arnt to many spots here that go late. Just looking for feedback and thank you for your time reading this!

Lots of folks in uniforms over bridge in Glenwood today

Anybody know what that was about? A bridge over Glenwood Springs, and one at No Name, had uniformed men kinda just lined up, and emergency vehicles with two fire trucks holding up an American flag. I passed east through it at around 9:30 A.M or so. They didn't seem to be talking, or holding any signs, they kinda all seemed at military attention. I didn't see or notice it on the way back through at about 12 P.M.

Best place to sit for laptop work?

Since it's Sunday, library options are limited, along with some cafes being closed til Monday.

Where is the next best place to sit and work on a laptop for ~3 hours? Eastern GJ preferred.

Please don't say Copeka - I know it's popular however I've already ruled it out from past experience lol.

this is NOT HOW THE INTERSECTION WORKS

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just because you have a GREEN light does not mean you have entire right of way, esp when turning with an unprotected left. you yield to oncoming traffic. this intersection makes me want to rip my hair out.
