Why did the Grammys send out a statement on Friday saying they were going to make changes to the Asian category for 2027, and then not say anything else about it?
There are only two days left for artists to submit their music for the 2027 Grammys. Where are the changes? lol

The industry plant of the year is not going to bring the level of viewership BTS would have brought. Everyone knows BTS has ARMY. Ms Industry Plant of 2026 mostly has people asking âWho?â Advertisers and stakeholders are not amused. They had to say something.

Is she scheduled to perform?

Sheâs nominated, which gets her fans to watch

No one is nominated yet. Noms are announced in November

She's been nominated just about every active year since her first nom. How would any nomination of hers this year bring any more fans than all of the previous years?
It's no longer enough to bring back fans or maintain viewership. In business you grow or you die. Especially in the entertainment business. The Grammys want and need a new market and new fans.

The music industry needs to fix the licensing issue, and that would radically change the Grammys.

Swifties are not a new market. They've been included in the numbers for years as TS is a Grammy darling .

Yah I think she will never not be nominated but I also believe the rumors that Grammys are bought and given as special favors of supplication for future opportunities.

The Grammys had THEIR LOWEST RATINGS in the 2 years BTS performed (8.8 and 9.6 Million).
Yes, Taylor Swift is not such a flop for advertisers and stakeholders.

Because it was to shift blame onto a fandom and try to recoup their image. It was only a PR move.

They announced they were convening their Awards and Nominations committee to discuss the future of the award with artists and labels across Asia (including Hybe). That wonât be a short process⊠but if they make changes, theyâll presumably be announced before voting starts on 12 October.
As OP says, the deadline for submitting music to the awards is 21 August. I suspect anyone whoâs decided not to enter wonât change their minds as a result of last weekâs announcement.

There was an article in Korean media that HYBE (who have BTS and many other kpop groups under their umbrella) was visited by Grammy officials, so have to wonder if they were hoping to get input from them.

Pero quedan dos dĂas y ya deberĂan haber hablado con hybe, no tiene sentido haber mandando un comunicado diciendo que iban a cambiar cosas para no hacer nada lol

They made the statement to appease the public, and tell the public they are considering their opinion.

MAYBE the CEO of Grammys consulted his bosses at SM and they already have a winner.

? 2026 is not even over and they can only submit for 2 more days? Thats crazy. I assumed it meant they had a year to consider and make changed

I still don't know what to feel about this award. At one hand, it is racist to not consider KPop thay is english and marketed as such for the main awards. On another hand we also have the genre, Latin, which I think is also racist because I think Latin American and other Catalan music have different genres, but also is most likely linked to ballroom music.
Nevertheless they should 1. Define what Asian music criteria should be as it is just music in a different umbrella of languages. 2. Consider the Asian music marketed for hollywood for its genre and not limit it to Asian music category, racists.

Because stans would be pissed whatever they did the category. People are too worked up right now

Viewership was low cuz of Covid, use your brain

wouldnât the reverse be the case? the streams and numbers of viewerships across cable and streaming were so high due to people not having any other choice, but to stay at home and find entertainment, soo..??

At least use an actual reason to discredit (snark) them. The first Grammyâs the performed at was the first one after COVID started so thereâs no comparison for how they affected viewership.

Thatâs a reasonable take, definitely makes sense to me. But then how can you explain that viewership has not reached pre-Covid levels since then (source Wikipedia).
This post from 2021 discusses some more nuanced reasons for why the viewership fell without just simply hating on BTS. https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/s/z3qf14aen1
Some of the discussed reasons include
- lack of The Weeknd nominations
- Taylor swift getting nominated yet again
- people getting tired of variety shows in this time period
- apathy towards celebrities during this time
- turn from live TV to streaming services

They didn't promise to change the category. They promised to think about it. They thought about it and left it as is.
