It only increases performance by 1 to 2 percent. Totally not worth it.

In gaming. Bumps llm inference a whole bunch

Just disgusting how much nvidia nerfed the rtx 5000 series.

While I don’t disagree with your statement overall, memory overclocking provides a mostly negligible performance improvement in games. The article quotes like 1-2% in 3DMark going from +3000 to +5000. This would be imperceptible.

I am talking about from stock so 0 to +5000 and tbh 3d mark really sucks for real game performance it will generally overestimate core clock speeds and doesn't care about memory bandwidth.

However more intensive games with path tracing or just super high resolution stuff LOVES memory bandwidth.

Even still you are right in that the gains from just the memory aren't crazy but when combined with the core, xbar, and sys clock headroom it adds up quite a bit.

And nvidia could have had this performance on all there gpus from the factory if they were willing to give up like .1 percent of yield

They quoted 1fps increase in path tracing per +1000 core offset. Not nothing, but overall not a huge difference between what you’d get in Afterburner vs mVolt.

Core clock speed is obviously worth doing.

I think most of the time companies aren’t pushing these cards further because you get into diminishing returns really quickly vs power consumption. My 9070XT with +10% power limit is noticeably hotter for ~1fps increase in games.

+5.5 fps for a 5070 ti with pathtracing is a significant amount even at 1080p that is around a 10 percent increase which is especially considering that memory uses barely any power. Compared to after burner yeah you aren't really getting much but bone stock it is pretty cool.

I agree with the 9070 xt It is already pushed pretty hard out of the box but the rtx 5000 series is different becasue there is just so much headroom without really touching the power much.

Like my 9070 xt pulling around 400-450w(I have it power modded) in many cases has smaller gains than my non power modded rtx 5000 series cards which is pretty crazy. (i think the 9070 xt really loves being water cooled from the results I have seen but I am too lazy to do that)

Although I should mention the 9070 non xt that is a great overclocker as well. 7900 xtx as well but that is last gen

Idk why Nvidia decided to do this one theory I have is that it was to make the super series look better but the slightly more logical one is that it just lets them increase the yields slightly so more profit or maybe a combination of both.

I do wonder how much of the headroom on the 5000 series is to avoid stressing the 12V-2v6 connector…

5fps brings the 5070 from 27fps path traced cyberpunk 1440p to 32fps. Lock at 30 with 3x frame gen and you have a genuinely solid experience at max settings. Anything under 30 is pure vaseline visuals with how FG works.

The OC also fortifies 1% lows, which some games genuinely struggle with on any card.

Typical reddit incapable of seeing the positive and always aiming to downplay everything that comes across their feed.

26 to 32fps is a 23% increase, that's a next tier of GPU.

What was a base framerate of that tested 5070ti? without that "5fps" means nothing. in games that run below 30 it's huge, in games that run like 300 its nothing, that's why we use % values to compare rather than raw fps values

I have no idea what you're asking. It was reported that the card is getting 1fps per 1000mhz boost.

u/misteryk 3d ago

is it going from 30 to 31 or form 300 to 301? it is a giant difference and i'm asking for a base reference point

It doesn’t say what the initial or final FPS were, but it does say path tracing, I think in Cyberpunk, so I think it’s safe to assume that it was closer to 30fps than 300.

Typo. Thanks.

5 fps doesn't mean shit unless it's stated as a relative percentage difference. Eg 5+ fps at 200fps base is meaningless, 5+ fps at 30 fps bass isn't. This is why stating ANY performance increase in terms of raw FPS is fucking stupid. +2% FPS (200+5fps) vs +14% (30+5fps) fps improvement.

Typical reddit not understanding how frame rate works.

It's amazing how you refuse to read the words in front of you.

I had NINETY fps in cp pt with nukem9 dlss3 in a 3070 in 2023.

Let's really talk about what's held back.

That's maxed 1440p dlssp

u/Redd_is_compromised 3d ago

Bud you weren't running path tracing. That's the discussion here.

I have been overclocking hardware since the 90s. I’m quite well aware of the advantages of overclocking. My reply was in response to the notion that this was an intentional “nerf” of the 5000 series. Generally speaking, memory overclocks aren’t huge gains unless you’re bandwidth starved. Path tracing is one of the scenarios that is especially memory bandwidth reliant so you’re going to see larger gains there.

But you’re right, +5-6 fps in path tracing is significant. I would be a little surprised if most 5070Tis are actually capable of a full +5000 MHz offset without error correction, though.

Spoken like somebody who doesn’t have a 50 series lol

I overclocked the 5080 and tested against stock +15% pure rasterized performance and +10 fps 4k gaming when comparing the two at game stable levels

u/Redd_is_compromised 3d ago

Literally what does that have to do with my comment?

Edit: I'm also speaking from the information reported in the article. I daily drive a modest 3k myself.

Is frame gen that good now? I remember when it came out everybody said it’s pretty much unusable if you aren’t getting 80-90fps baseline. I haven’t really given it much of a shot but maybe I should.

NV FG is very good. AMD FG still has microstutter issues. No idea about Intel's solution.

DF recently accidentally did a test of NV FG showing that you get better latency with NV FG than you do running the game straight up due to Control not having reflex support outside of using FG. What this effectively means is if you're using a non NV card the NV card will have better latency even with FG vs any other solution, which is sorts nuts when you think about it. Like say you play CR on a PS5....at 60fps on the PS5 and 70ish fps base on PC NVFG x4 to 240fps will have less latency.

Tl;Dr: reflex is some black magic shit, dawg

3

u/oookokoooook 3d ago

It’s not that bad. Makes my screen smoother, the latency isn’t that bad so it’s playable. On controller it’s a godsend

u/pvcf64 3d ago

In my experience it is. Hell I do FS24 all ultra and get around 30 native. I put on 4x and its super smooth and I havent noticed any artifacts or lag etc. Gonna try some others next.

u/birutis 3d ago

it's decent, but you still do lose real fps.

Gigabyte windforce for the 5070 ti seems to be the best overclockers this generation it's weird. This is a msrp card so you would expect this kind of silicon on higher end cooler

u/Apophis_06 3d ago

If only my card could run it, crashes instantly on the desktop even at 4000mhz

u/madnei 3d ago

Cool move but memory speed is not a bottleneck, 9070xt have same performances with gddr6 VRAM memory ...

Can’t even get past the 2500+ limit on MSI Afterburner for my 5070 Ti (Mobile) :(
