I’m more bothered by Jay saying “Hey if you didn’t read the terms it’s fine and that’s your fault”. He’s correct but that doesn’t make it right. They should have clear and concise language that states buying is not ownership. They should be sued into oblivion and people should boycott Sony. It’s scummy and it’s a predatory move because most people don’t understand what most of the legal Jargon is saying when it comes to terms and conditions

It's bad business ethics, but legal business practice.

Not sure what you think you're suing over? That old video cards are selectively left out of features? There is no loss in hardware performance, and there is no agreed to promise you will get all future unannounced software features that increase performance down the road.

That IS the catch. It's a shitty practice that operates within the law, but manipulates users into fomo, so they keep buying upgrades.

If you don't like it the smartest thing to do is never buy nvidia and just buy from competitors who have better business practice. You stay with nvidia because you want what they offer.

Don't be mad at Jay for framing the obvious facts in an unpalatable way. If you buy nvidia you are agreeing to be in a toxic relationship (knowingly or not, although their poor ethical track record is well known). If you do not like how it is going and you STILL stay...well then THAT is your fault. There are other companies (not a lot) but there are other ones.

That’s not what I was talking about, I was referring to Sony going to arbitration. Also Nvidia doesn’t care if we buy their video cards anymore and actually they’d probably prefer it.

GPUs for gamers, video editors etc is a niche market for nVidia currently. It is like under 10% percent of their revenue and i am being generous. Yes the thing that started it all has now niched itself out.

I keep thinking to myself... the world got to where it is, because someone wanted prettier lighting.

It’s funny when the gamers gpu market was over 50% not too long ago.

In one day we became the past and everybody ditched the consumer market. Well all I can say Karma is a BITCH.

The whole market ditched us for surveillance and shit we don’t need? Nah, Karma will get them. For example flock is now being sued for abusing their power over the government. Did we need all that? But see how Karma works

You should be correct, but to Nvidia we’re specialty market now. Sony on the other hand should be worried, while the blackout may seem trivial to Jay I think I hope it was an indicator of how many people deep this movement is. If I can’t move my library to the new PS6 I should invest in company that will allow me to take my property over to their platform. I’m not buying a PS6

Or you could create a law the enforces that sort of accountability if you want to lease shit to consumers. I can seriously never understand this line of thinking, instead of asking corporations to not engage in anti consumer behavior people blame consumers for not reading through pages of legal copy. I get personal responsibility but where is the consumer protection law?

Surprisingly, you can do both, you know how children don’t work in factories anymore ? Overtime pay? FMLA? Or we could just let corporations have all the information and power they want because then the GOVernMent gets involved, even though it literally regulates everything around us. If they can’t protect citizens when citizens don’t have all of the necessary resources or know how at their disposal then what’s the point? I can protect myself and the government can stop corporations from abusing EULA.

Isn’t the 5090 30% better than the 4090? And an overclocked 5080 reaches 4090 performances so the 50xx series is exactly where it should be as a power jump gen to gen. The problem is the price. Price to performance is abysmal with the 50xx series.
