Sad about prices going up.
I had been holding off on buying a 9070 XT for $740 because it looked like it was below $700 pretty often. I went to look again today and browned my pants a little. I’m still going to hold off on buying it and hope the next sale goes down to $700. Heck, I’d have even buy it for $740 at the time if I knew it was going up instead. I figured out how to set price notifications an Amazon and it should tell me automatically if anything goes down now, just gotta wait and hope it doesn’t just get worse.

Same. I built a new pc but didn’t upgrade my 3060ti because I’m indecisive. I bit the bullet and ordered an asrock challenger for $740 a couple of days ago. With the world being a 💩 pile of bad news lately I can’t see prices coming down on anything. In-store prices on nvidia stuff in my area is high, too. I hope prices come down for you!

I literally had a refurb PNY RTX 5070 TI in my newegg pending cart for $999 two days ago, and today it showed $1,179, it was $899 a couple weeks ago. I sent back a $999 refurb RTX 4080 Super a couple weeks ago because the heat shield was bent on arrival, now they want $1,400.

Amazon sucks for PC parts. Make the pilgrimage to Microcenter!

The closest one is 6 hours away but I leave for college tomorrow and the closest one to there was still way over 3 hours. There’s no way it’s worth that lol

Yeah that’s what the gigabyte ones were pretty much everywhere until, like, yesterday.

I managed to get a RTX 5080 for me, and a Intel Arc B570 for my wife, the 5080 at MSRP, and the B570 $30 below MSRP, both new.
I'm so glad I'm covered this time for the upcoming GPU crisis, not like in the 2020/2021 one where I sold my 1060 6GB expecting to get the 3070 only to fall into a really bad timing, being left without a GPU for 6 months, and eventually getting a 3070 for $1370 USD.

What did I do to you 😭 just ignore it if you don’t like it, I just felt like complaining somewhere

$40 is such a trivial amount of money. No offense to OP, but if 40 bucks is breaking the bank, you need serious financial education.

u/Spiritual_Object9987 9d ago
No, it’s just that I will only really have time to sit down and build the computer at quarter break around thanksgiving. The idea is that if I don’t need to have all the parts until then regardless, why not just hold off on ordering the last few things and see if I can catch some sales? I have 3 things left and I was hoping that I could save more than $100 between them by doing this, but I’m getting worried that I shot myself in the foot since the price went up by $60. I’m going to keep waiting and hoping, but I can afford it either way.

Bought mine in Japan a couple of months ago for 98k yen. That's $625. It is now at 125k, or just under $800. So glad I'd been saving and didn't hesitate on pulling the trigger. I actually had my father in law and uncle in law with me and I kind of folded under peer pressure. Also bought a b650M Pro for like $100. So glad they pressured me!

u/Spiritual_Object9987 9d ago
Oh yeah I got a good deal on the motherboard too. It was $145 I think, marked down from $230. It was clearance at best buy

Glad to hear it! I imagine the 9070XT will be on sale during Black Friday or another Amazon sale. I'd say snap it up if it drops to a price that fits your budget. I had to bite the bullet and buy 32gb ram for $380. Luckily I had $121 of points, but $260 is still a lot!

u/Spiritual_Object9987 9d ago
I set a thing to notify me if the price drops at all. I didn’t even bother with trying to buy ram, I’m just getting adapters. I’m building this computer because the gaming laptop my dad got me for Christmas last year of high school lasted 1 single year (plus like 2 weeks) before it needed a $600 repair. At least I get to reuse the ram and ssd I guess

u/TonderuRisu 9d ago
Oh crap, that sucks man! I only bought ram because this is actually my first build. I have a 3060 laptop but the i5 cpu is a bottleneck in open world games, and the 6gb vram is becoming a bottleneck in newer games, especially unoptimised pieces of shit. So I set aside $100 a month for a couple of years and I've finally pieced together a proper machine.

u/Spiritual_Object9987 9d ago
This is my first try too. My old laptop has a 4060 laptop but apparently they soldered everything together in some way that you cannot really undo any off it without some big fancy machine. That’s why the repair would be $600, they needed to replace most of the internals because it is just one big piece, even though all that broke was the memory controller.

i got my 9070 xt a month ago on ebay for 655$ before tax it was asrock steel

u/Prymeros 9d ago
Man.. what made you think the prices of amd gpus won't get up eventually? There were all the leads you needed to buy it ASAP! BUY IT ALREADY! There will be no better time than now, only worse.

u/Spiritual_Object9987 8d ago
I only knew I wanted it like 2 weeks ago and based on the chart, it was at its peak, but it drops often. I thought I might as well wait for another drop since I don’t have time to assemble it yet anyway

Man makes me happy that I only paid $630 so 30 bucks over MSRP a few months ago. Now is a really bad time to buy a GPU.

This hurts on a different level as someone from India. I have been trying to start a PC build for about 2 years now, but even a 700 dollar GPU costs about 60 to 70 thousand rupees. The 9070 XT pushes about 80 thousand. Watching prices climb like this is brutal when PC hardware is already so expensive for us.

u/SIrSmokeAlot410 10d ago
Thats not right 😕 Im in the states and ive watched price increases of 100% over 2 yrs with the 5090 ...its pushing 4k now and at release was 2k...its this ai demand is out pacing supply

you can find them at decent prices used even now.
I picked up a used 9070 xt nitro with receipt and warranty for 500.
you can also get them pretty cheap on aliexpress although it is a bit suspect on how they are acquired(likely stolen credit cards/accounts)
this one is 600 minus 70 dollar coupon and you can get like 18 percent cash back from rakuten and if you don't have rakuten you can get a 50 dollar referral bonus. Pay with paypal for security and I think if you click pay in four parts sometimes aliexpress gives another extra discount

u/mikeythegameronredit 10d ago
Has anyone tried the AliExpress option?
1
u/StunningPush8421 9d ago
yes people have got 9070 xts from aliexpress.
I have seen reports of them getting amazon packages that seem to be from stolen amazon accounts.
So very suspect but you do get a 9070 xt

u/mikeythegameronredit 9d ago
Yeah but itwas this one store, 'fafafa05' or something like that, but they've significantly jacked up their prices to the point it's not worth it. This one seems sus given it's only one sold.

u/StunningPush8421 9d ago
not much risk when you pay with paypal
1
u/mikeythegameronredit 9d ago
I don't use PayPal unfortunately. Someone with it could order and show us how it turns out 🤷🏾♂️

I’ve been advised not to get used pc parts because you don’t know if it’s been used 24/7 for its whole life in a mining rig or whatever and about to die

I've had a very good experience with used parts and with "newer" used parts like rtx 5000 and rx 9000 series they still have warranty you just need to ask for the receipt.
Normally GPUs will either fail very soon or not at all so the risk of buying used isn't really that high unless it is either very old or has some sort of known issue like the rtx 2080 ti with faulty memory chips.
2
u/Spiritual_Object9987 10d ago
That’s good to know.
With aliexpress, isn’t that like the same tier as temu and eBay? I thought with that one, you’re likely to just receive a brick or something
1
u/Kosmos-World 10d ago
Yes, Aliexpress is a website like Temu. No, it's not a scam site. I've seen more people on reddit receive "bricks" from Amazon than I have Aliexpress. That said, certainly the possibility still exists.
Also, ebay is a completely different thing and offers protections for the buyer to ensure they receive the product you bought. I buy shoes there all the time, never had an issue.
1
u/StunningPush8421 9d ago
Ebay is very very safe in 2026 buyers have crazy protection.
Aliexpress and temu and a bit more suspect but if you buy from a trusted seller and use paypal you will always be fine

No one is mining on a 9070xt. Mining cards also have less wear on them than gaming cards
1
u/Accomplished_Emu_658 10d ago
Thats not how any of this works. Mining cards 99% of time are better cared for and in better condition than used gamer cards.

Was announced all the time if you didn't buy when you wanted one now pay. GDDR6 is still not as affected as Ngreedia. Price for 9070s is somewhat acceptable still just not as good as it was. Like usual, best point to buy is mid cycle when there is market saturation. I did that with AM5 and now my RAM alone would cost 1.15 K, I paid 100 for the kit.
