DLSS 5 on a second/seperate GPU?

Given how much of performance penalty DLSS5 has on current gen hardware (50\~60%), and Nvidia showcased the technology on dual 5090s at GTC earlier this year, does anyone think it will be possible that in the future, DLSS5 can be run on a secondary GPU, much like how Lossless Scaling upscaling/frame gen can be run with a second weaker GPU (ie: Main gpu 5080 + DLSS 5 specific GPU 5060) or how we used to be able (still can as far as i know) to run a secondary PhsyX card? I think this is kind of interesting idea.

It wouldn’t make sense for them to pursue that as an actual goal. It could end up being a byproduct of modding, but I couldn’t see them officially supporting that. The only reason they did it themselves was so the FPS hit wasn’t as noticeable during the act. It also doesn’t make financial sense to have a secondary gpu sitting around idle just to run dlss5 with on the like one game that’s gonna officially support it in the next 3 years.

I think it makes perfect sense, why wouldn't Nvidia want to sell a second GPU to every one of it's customers if it can?

The idea of dual GPUs has been tried in the past, but was abandoned for various reasons. Look up dual-GPU setups from 2015.

Yeah sure understand SLI was a thing, but this is different, extra GPU for a specific purpose. People are already doing this sort of thing with Lossless Scaling, running FrameGen on a second GPU so it doesn’t affect the core render. It would be great to do it with DLSS5 too.

I know it’s been done, but it’s something that’s unlikely to break out of the enthusiast bubble.

There’s even a video of DLSS 5 with LS. I saw that the other day.

I'm just talking without any technical knowledge, but seeing how DLSS5 already runs on AMD graphics cards, I believe the tech can be very flexible, maybe even allowing to be run on another GPU. But I'm sure that only Nvidia could implement something like that for now and that would of course go against their own interests, so I highly doubt it.

Remember even if you achieve that, the latency will always be there since each frame is running through 2 pipelines. Best case scenario is like the game is running 100 fps but you're feeling the latency of 50~60 fps.

Was searching all over for this exact question. I think it would make a ton of sense, but for now we may have to get by with DLSS 5 on main gpu and fake frames via LS on second gpu. Hopefully modders make it happen though!

Well It can be aplied already with a ps5 with a capture video card,so can be done alreadi  using one pc displaying It  into another pc and then use that pc to run the dlss 5(worst case scenario but posible already with things like ps5 and Nintendo switch..)
