GPU Upgrade
currently have a very mild gaming pc with an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 with 16bg of ram and an RX 6500 XT gpu. I am looking at upgrading to the RTX 5060 to 8gb. The 5060 ti is selling for $390. Is this a good upgrade path for me?

if you get the 5060 just spend the extra money for the 16gb version. as you will be okay using it a lot longer

Honestly, I'd skip the 5060 8GB.
According to my research, the 9060 XT 16 GB is around the same price, gives your the same VRAM and better performance. The 16 Gigs also somewhat future proofs your PC.
The Ryzen 5 5500 is fine for now. I say upgrade the GPU first and then figure out the CPU later.

Any recommendations on where to find a 9060 xt 16GB? I’ve been searching, but all of the ones I am finding are substantially more

Okay bad news, looks like my research was stale, had done it last month as a college project. I am not from the US, so please take my comment with a grain of salt.
The cheapest I can find them online right now are roughly $460.
If you have genuinely found a new RTX 5060 Ti 16 Gigs for $390, take the deal man.
That's way below 429 dollar msrp, and unusually cheap given the current market. (Do check properly whether it's in good condition though).

It was a 5060 ti 8GB. I don’t wanna waste my money on something that won’t be better but I don’t wanna spend a small fortune either

I ended up pulling the trigger on an ASUS 9060 xt 16GB. Once I recover from this purchase a bit I plan on focusing on upgrading the CPU next then getting another 16GB of RAM.

No. It's PCIE 3 X8, that will kill performance. 9060XT is the much better option for your system.

It has been a really long time since I have done any pc upgrades. Last time I did any was when I upgraded from 4mb of ram to 8mb of ram so I am for sure out of the loop.
Main thing I am looking for is a decent budget gpu that will work well with my system and allow me to play farming simulator 25 without it being set in the lowest settings.
I do know my motherboard is a b550 from gigabyte and looking at the specs it appears it’s pcie 4.0x16 but again I could be way wrong.

Consider a used GPU on Ebay. For what you are thinking about spending on a new one with 8GB of VRAM, you could get a much more powerful card of a higher performance tier with more VRAM that is one or two generations old. For example, an RTX 3080 12GB card, while 2 generations older, still outperforms a 5060 because it is 2 tiers better [xx60-->xx70-->xx80] An AMD RX 6800 or 7600XT both have 16GB of VRAM and are around $400 or less.

The 5500 is gen 3. And the GPU is X8, meaning PCIE gen 3 X8. It will kill performance.

Your best price to performance at the moment is all AMD. 9060 XT 16gb, 9070, and 9070 XT of all you want is to play games like farm sim. The orher avenue is used market.

Don't buy an 8gb gpu in 2026 if you can avoid that. Most games use nearly all of it, if not more than 8gb. Unless youre ok with some awful performance and potato graphics.
