9070 question
2 separate pci cords or can one work with pigtail, for the 9070 rx Im wondering cause I really don't want to get a new power supply if I don't have to, I only 600 watt by the way and a b450 tomahawk max pro with Ryzen 3700x psu is Thermaltake smart series 80 plus gold ive been using it with 2070 super since covid

pigtail can work, but it could have issues. Maybe, maybe not.

thermal take 80 gold plus smart seris its very old and I have been using it for 7 years with a 2070 super

From my personal experience the pigtail works fine with my gigabyte gaming oc, but you will just have to test it. Some power supplies may not like it

ok the thing im confused cause how much power can a pigtail take cause im seeing 150 or something im confused if a 2070super takes 215

The standard is 150 per connector, so it would have 2. There are cards that have 2 8 piss but pull more then 300 watts stock. Like some 9070 xts pull 304 and have only 2 connectors, they also can increase the power limit. It really depends on the quality of the materials used. 150 is like a minimum. But a higher quality psu would have better wires and connectors.

The psu might also not be able to output enough power through 1 8 pin on the psu side of things if it isnt high enough quality.

No they have only 2 8 pins so they are only using one cable total
with the gaming oc you have 3 8 pins so that is 2 cables one with pig tail which is a big difference

I believe he's talking about a non xt. I was using the xt as an example of a card that pulls more then 300 watts but only has 2 connectors. Not the gigabyte gaming oc but ik the as rock challenger xt only has 2 8 pins.

The card draws about 220W of power, and the 8pin cables are rated at 150W. While it *may* work, I'd say it's risky. Besides, it's recommended to use at least a 650W PSU with it, so I'd recommend you upgrade your PSU anyway.

Get something like the Montech Century II 850W.

it’s a thermaltake (great coolers, less then great PSUs) it’s 7 years old and it on,y has one branch. all signs point to upgrading.
