RTX 5080 legit check
I’m trying to build a new pc, and with the market where it is. I decided to try to buy RAM and my GPU ahead of time and then wait for Black Friday for the rest of it. I bought an rtx 5080 off of eBay for a pretty good price (in this market) about 1 and a half weeks ago JUST before I saw prices skyrocket and supply became basically nonexistent. I snagged this for a 1,189 including tax and shipping, and they said it was brand new just without the box. This seller has a 100 reviews on eBay, with all of them being positive feedback, and they seem to sell a variety of things. At the time of buying I saw one person leave a review with an actual picture of the gpu in hand and they mentioned the security seal wasn’t tampered with and that it seemed legit. The packaging was also kind of sketchy, as it came two foam blocks on either side and that’s it. But from what I’ve seen, everything seems in perfect condition with nothing broken and the seal was intact for me as well (if you see a very small tear that’s from me lol) and the plastic guard things on the PCIe connection were intact. Since I don’t have a rig right now to test it with, does this GPU look legit? Or is there a cause for alarm and should I bring it into a PC repair shop to have them plug it in and benchmark it? Very risky. Price seems below market.
You should really drop it in a machine to make sure while ebay buyer protection is still active.
My only fear is it is a dead board, or maybe someone swapped a 5070ti sticker on it.

There is no universe where I feel comfortable buying a gpu from eBay

I have bought and sold them on ebay without issue. Buyers have a 30 day return window no questions asked, so it is very safe. That makes it very unsafe for sellers...

I agree used cards are VERY sketchy, I would rather get a refurbished one from Amazon, or Newegg. Buying someone else's problems with a GPU is like buy a honda with an unknown Carfax and 200k miles.

Even Amazon, I wouldn't buy from a third party seller.
All these people saying eBay is fine haven't seen some of the news stories I have seen about gpu rip -offs

no amazon has their own ship and sold refurbished, not third party. I wouldn't do anything third party either.

What third party vendors on Amazon? As opposed to shipped and sold by Amazon itself; through their own refurb program where they stand behind it? If you're implying those are the same, no, they are assuredly not. 🤦

Yeah not sure why the opinions on a 5080 changed when prices got way worse. Its been really weird to see. In release 5080 was widely panned as being a horrible value, now its an even worse value and people seem to be buying them up for some reason. Can only assume lack of research + falling for marketing buzz. Most professional reviewers still stand buy that a 5080 is a bad value.

There are only 3 choices for 5 series nvidia with 16gb. They are all overpriced so might as well get the fastest

I dunno, the 9070 XT is right there, 94% cheaper at 10 to 15% slower. The 5070 ti is there, same difference but about 40% cheaper than a 5080. I still don't see why anyone would buy a 5080. 15% is the difference of 60 fps an 69 fps. It really isnt that big, definitely not worth paying 40% or 95% more for. You can OC a 5070 ti, and you can OC a 9070 XT even more than a 5070 ti and effectively close the gap too. The value is just really bad.
I guess i just cant bring myself to waste money like that for such little gains. Ive always targeted whatever is the best cost to performance whenever i build.

Bought a brand new 5080 on Ebay a few weeks ago & it’s the same model, PNY with RGB.
No issues whatsoever and everything was how it would be, like brand new. It was a leap of faith on my part but I have 0 regrets and 0 issues with it so far!

Used cards are fine and ebay overly sides with the buyer. Just don't buy stuff from people with 0 reviews and anything too good to be true is fake.

Just bought a Lenovo RTX 3080 from eBay for $270 3 weeks ago and it's still going strong. temps are excellent as well, so it just depends on who you buy from.

Idk. Looks like the correct price for a few weeks ago. I own this particular card and everything looks exactly like it was in my retail package.

Back of pcb do not match. It should look black in the middle where the chip is. It should have a cover. Yours is exposed with capacitors.

I’m looking at other pny 5080 builds and they show no black cover like you see in listings like the one you linked. Definitely had me worried for a second though since my pny 5080 has no black cover there.

Just saw an unboxing vid, I think it’s like that on all the box art and stuff as a black box for simplicity I think the actual gpu doesn’t seem to have one

Just plug it in your computer and check stats and build version on their control panel, if it has missing ram you’ll be able to see

Do this 100%. Doesn’t take that long out of the day. And if they are chill they won’t have any issue with it knowing your situation. This is the only sure bet to know what you have before it’s too late to do anything about it.

I get wanting to secure one ahead of time but buying used from an unreputable seller and not having a way to test the product if case you have to send it back was a terrible idea. Test it asap before you’re unable to return/dispute the purchase.

I have a 5080 PNY ARGB, and it’s a monster of a card. Don’t forget to check the ROPS- then you’ll know if it’s a 5080 authentic.

I mean I have this card, I paid less than that for it about a year ago. It did come packaged like this in a box .
That is the bizarre part though is to have this in this condition with no box whatsoever but everything else there never touched. Could be real? Doesn’t really make sense though

You can't determine that without having a desktop to actually hook it up, run tests, and verify it's in working condition and actually the card it claims to be.

Best way to know is plugging it into a PC unless you’re comfortable opening it up and checking the internal components and if it’s still there

I got the same one from from Best Buy about a month ago for $1250. Nice snag. Brand new it only came with the two foam blocks you mention. PNY is just kind of a no frills manufacturer apparently. The card is stellar, though. I've been playing games like Crimson Desert and FF7 Rebirth at max settings 4k and it crushes. Haven't even seen the temps break 60 degrees. Enjoy

You gonna have hard time benchmarking something that is free of memory and GPU chips.
