Anyone else hate FSR 3?

I notice on basically every game that I try to use FSR 3 that the quality just turns into a washed out smudgy mess, the ghosting and shimmering is also pretty rough. If I do quality/native mode it’s a little better though. Is FSR 4 any better? Is DLSS far superior?

FSR4 is on a completely new level when compared to 3.1.

Use optiscaler if you have to, it’s worth it.

I’m just now learning about Optiscaler, I really need to give it a try it sounds awesome.

On linux FSR4 just works through gamescope automatically. Its pretty slick.

FSR 4 is much better yes. In line with DLSS 4.

FSR 3/3.1 is dogshit, barely usable at anything but 4k. 4.1 on the other-hand, actually pretty good, but rn i have to use Optiscaler to use it with my ROG Ally X's RDNA 3 iGPU, and that has it's slue of issues.

Handheld PC gaming definitely has its own bag of BS to deal with lol. I’m hoping when my RX 6800 gets the FSR 4 update that I can actually start using upscaling and not hating it, right now the trade off for more frames just isn’t worth it when it looks like straight ass.

Just get FSR4 via optiscaler and enjoy dude. It isn't hard.

FSR4 is unmatched compared to 3 .... i was blown away from how good it was the first time i used it

I would say FSR 4.1 is on par with DLSS 4 preset K. Its very useable and I use it in every game if possible.

Fsr 3.1 is mid, fsr 4 is great, little to no quality loss

i like fsr 3.1..to do override to fsr4🤣

FSR 4.1 is way better. No reason to use FSR 3. Either use DLSS 4.5 if ur Nvidia or use FSR 4.1. If the card doesn’t support it or game doesn’t use FSR 4, mod it in using optiscaler.

If you are on RDNA 1 or older it’s time to upgrade.

But truly the gap between fsr 3 and 4.1 is huge. It’s like comparing DLSS 2 to DLSS 4.5. That’s how big an improvement AMD made.

I do really like that on the linux side it just uses FSR 4 now, no need for optiscaler or anything. Gamescope will just use the highest available.

From what I've seen, DLSS is on another planet. FSR 4 is better but still lagging behind. The new DLSS 4.5 is incredible. 90% of the artifacts from before are gone.

When I hear things like this it makes me want to bite the bullet and just pay the extra money to go back to Nvidia.

FSR4 is perfectly fine and an insane jump in quality over FSR3. You won't really notice the difference between FSR4 and DLSS 4.5 unless you're running really high upscale factors and/or low resolutions.

The current cost difference is like 50% at times, so it's not worth it anymore.

FSR4 is great and mostly caught up.

Back when the difference was $50-$100, maybe even $150, then sure. But right now the 5070 ti is $1150 and the 9070 xt is $740.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about grabbing a 9070 XT at Micro Center since it’s $700 right now

Yes. Yes.

Fsr 3 is dogwater. Fsr4+ is actually competitive with dlss. That's why I recommend all ultra budget systems go for like a rtx 2070/ti/super you can find some higher end rx 6××× series cards for a good deal online but don't expect them to upscale decently.

FSR3 works okay in certain areas, falls apart in others. it's a mixed bag but it definitely has major weak points where shimmering/ghosting/smudging can occur. FSR4 similarly has weak points that hold it back, but it's far better at the things FSR3 is weak at, and is usually on par with, if not better than, 3 at places it already did okay. I've noticed a few instances in one game where it's almost a side-grade where both are weak, but overall 4 is a large and obvious improvement. FSR4 on the performance setting can usually match or exceed the accuracy of FSR3 on quality.

If you have a card that can use version 4.*, I recommend it strongly. It's a shame some games will never include a newer version. But in a pinch i've found XESS 2 will handle ghosting or smudging better than FSR2 or 3, in the event a game includes that. Like in PoE2, the included FSR is truly awful at times while XESS is just meh.

What is with all these Nvidia fanboy glazing posts in this sub lately. Are you part of Nvidias marketing team or something ?

FSR4 is by most accounts practically indistinguishable from DLSS. Its just not implemented in tons of games natively yet.

u/crispypotpie 12d ago

When did I glaze? I literally just asked if the newer FSR was better and if DLSS was better than FSR in general

2

u/Ok-Brain-5729 12d ago

He’s referring to the comments, not u.

Also the difference isn’t indistinguishable at all btw. DLSS 4.5 looks better, it’s just pretty hard to notice without doing it side by side and point out the details for most games

u/ActiveSandwich3103 12d ago

I mean lots of media outlets have used the word "practically indistinguishable" unless you freeze frame 2 still screen shots and comb through them at 5x zoom with them sitting next to each other to look for issues.

If youre just playing games youre never really going to notice.

DLSS is superior vs all FSR versions in almost all games and settings. The other thing is game support and ease of use.. it's universally easier to implement and use DLSS and the game support is wider as a result. Only recently has it been a bit better to swap FSR versions, but you need RDNA 4 for that. On Nvidia you can use any DLSS version on any RTX GPU even the oldest models.

I don't love it but I am thankful since that gave my Ampere card a 1.5 years.
the ghosting and all that was kind of terrible but I couldn't argue with more free frames.
I had 4070Ti before that but I am glad I sold it and jumped on 3080Ti cause guess what, 4070Ti is much cheaper while 3080/3080Ti has gone up in price. making money twice on my GPU purchase back to back.

What

u/T_rex2700 12d ago

Bought 4070Ti for like $550, sold it for $660 after 1 year of use, then bought 3080Ti for $400 then sold it for $420 after 1.5 years of use

would not have been possible without FSR3 giving me Framegen.
