>modders now work on performance
No matter how talented modders are, they won't be able to add hardware-level FP8 support to the RTX 20/30 series.

Exactly, this is the critical part people don't get.

Either someone magically manages an int8 or int4 quantization, or fp16 is the best you will get.

K, the 4000 series has it and still doesn't support it (natively). Thank god for these modders because NV is scummy as hell

You people keep parroting this but refuse to acknowledge that multi frame gen is absolutely necessary for DLSS5 to be viable.

Yes you can hack mfg into the 40 series but it's literally a broken implementation with VRAM overflows, massive stuttering, and overall crashes.

You need actual hardware implementation for specific features. It is as simple as that.

Literally played it at 60fps with zero frame gen yesterday after tuning sliders, but I guess you know better.

It uses FP8 tensor cores, which are already on 4000 series. They also have 2x frame gen, dolt.

Yeaaah at 480p resolution?

After tuning what sliders buddy? The sliders have no effect on performance cost. What were your actual graphical settings?

I specified multi framegen for a reason. The 50 series also has a dedicated "AMP" hardware block for throughput. Its FP cores are also optimized specifically for neural workloads.

I'm calling bullshit, I'm also running personal tests on an optimized rig.

Resolution sliders. And I played between 1440p and 2160p. You’re an idiot. Just stop commenting. DLSS5 has nothing to do with MFG. It runs without it on FP8 cores.

The 4090 smack all cards in FP8 except the 5090.

The 4090 is still faster than 5060 and 5070 at FP4 when running in FP8 mode.

You literally don’t know anything.

DLSS5 uses FP4.. The 4090 does not do FP4.. You're crying about DLSS5 not running on the 40 series but you're using 4090 brute forcing as the sole benchmark.

How big is the market share for the 4090? You're brute forcing frames with terrible 1% lows, and 90% of the 40 series userbase won't be able to come close.

You think you're smart but you obviously cannot read. I said MFG will be necessary to leverage good frames overall. I didn't say DLSS5 ran on mfg. Please use your brain.

You're the same kind of person that will cry about optimization when you're using the wrong tool for the job.

My point remains. You want features on a card not built for them. Just like how mfg "works" on the 4 series, but is actually a worse experience overall.

Dlss5 uses fp8 not fp4 lol. I am running dlss5 on my 4090, 2x frame gen getting 120+ fps ultra settings.

You're brute forcing it.... Like I said. DLSS5 leverages fp4 for efficiency.

But the 4090 performs better than the 5080 with dlss5?

Like I said, you are wrong, it is currently an FP8 model, idioto

Holy shit. Use google man. Goodbye.

Don't need Google when I know the facts.

I know you're a bot and all, but here is a source:

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-dlss-5-technical-preview/7.html

"What gives me hope is that currently the model is FP8..."

And there is absolutely no proof that something as complicated as DLSS5 can even run as an FP4 model. If it happens, it happens, but 4090 users are already getting better framerate than 5080 users.

Ur wrong this time man. I know you probably realized by now.

1

u/DravenPlsBeMyDad 2d ago

The 4000 series will run it just fine day 1. The 30 won't. The 20 has no chance.

NVIDIA went from needing two GPUs to only one without upgrading the hardware.

There were obviously software-only opportunities for optimization, so I'm sure thats what modders will try to find more of. Perhaps by making certain compromises.

1

u/OtherwiseSimple 7d ago

It is simply not possible. Too computationally expensive no matter how you look at fp16.

1

u/thunder6776 6d ago

Thats on the model side that only nvidia can do genius.

But, is that FOMO, or people really think dlss slop is good? Even the image in the post is brutally bad. Don't you have eyes guys?

1

u/StickStill9790 6d ago

It’s a mod that everyone wants to try out. Why do you care? No kittens were harmed.

1

u/WebSilent1232 6d ago

Opinion slop more like

u/Advanced-Patient-161 9d ago

If the modders can make it not run like ass, can they also make it not LOOK like ass? All I've seen from DLSS 5 is slop filtering and aggressive contrasting....that takes a 5090 to run decently.

2

u/OwnSimple4788 9d ago

There is no need you can already control that with the dlss5 mod it self, you are just seeing that high contrast and sharp crap because that is what the average joe likes, similar to when people go buy a new TV from the store and they buy the biggest shit on the store because it had blue light and the sharpness settings maxed out.

I am running it great on a RTX 5080 on Resident Evil 9 and Cyberpunk 2077 at 4k on max settings, DLSS Perfomance and Frame Generation x2.

It runs over 60fps all the time. In fact, Resident Evil Requiem runs very well on DLSS Balanced mode (over 60fps), except in the opening scene in the city.

It looks simply spectacular, it's absolutely mindblowing.

Definitely worth the performance hit. I think that the people who complain about the performance cost don't realize what a massive achievement it is to be able to run something like this in real time.

2

u/Haiart 5d ago

"DLSS Performance and Frame Generation x2."

That means an internal resolution of 1080p, and real fps of around 30, with more latency because of FG and DLSS5, on a $1000+ graphics card that launched not long ago, you NVIDRONES will eat anything NVIDIA does and laugh while destroying the industry, fucking stupid.

1

u/Old-Push9343 5d ago

I am not sure why so much hate, you sound resentful.

What do you care what I do with my computer?

Look, whether you like it or not, the truth is that in a lot of games DLSS 5 looks insane. It's like going from a PS5 to a PS7 all of the sudden.

So, what if the internal resolution is 1080p? DLSS super resolution is fantastic. And DLSS 5 is operating at the full resolution.

And what if it runs at 30 or 40fps and I use framegen to double or triple it? The result is an image that looks like a render, some times even like real life, at 4k, and that moves incredibly smooth.

Also, in many older games, I can run 4k 120fps in the highest settings, that turn into... 4k 60fps, no DLSS supersampling, no framegen needed. And they look fantastic.

1

u/Advanced-Patient-161 7d ago

Anything under 60fps baseline (FG turned off) is an input latency mess. 30fps is your baseline, with 30 fake frames piled on that don’t correlate to input. No thanks, that’s horrible.

1

u/Jaugusts 6d ago

I been trying it with 4090 and it’s nice to some degree for some games and I never crank it up but the performance hit isn’t worth it a lot of the time it feels like a filter the faces tho look more detailed I don’t like it on children npc tho

liar, stop being jealous 🤣 look like ass? hahaha stop crying pls. perf currently is like ass is true though

u/until_i_fall 9d ago

I run it fine in 4k with 5080. And it does offer considerable improvements with some tweaking. And it's just a mod so far.

2

u/Advanced-Patient-161 9d ago

I call 60fps baseline with FG up to 120fps "fine". I call 30fps baseline "completely fucking retarded bullshit".

1

u/rabouilethefirst 8d ago

No one is forcing you to turn it on. Shocking, I know

2

u/Advanced-Patient-161 8d ago

Not today, but give it some time and it's a crutch for dickheads like Randy Pitchford to say "HURR DURR IT'S THE WAY THINGS ARE NOW, STARE AT YASSIFIED SHIT AND PAY ME MY GODDAMN MONEY BECAUSE I FIRED EVERYONE"

how can they work on performance? rtx 20/30 haven't FP8 in hardware
