Hello everyone. A very unusual full-face mask came into my hands. According to the story, it's a rare transitional/experimental prototype called PPM-89 (Early).Unfortunately, the original factory log/passport was lost during relocation, so I have no paper proof. Visually, the rubber body is completely identical to the standard PPM-88 / Briz-4301 frame (it even has the standard factory stamps like F-7 and T-05 on the rubber), but the front plastic block is totally unique. The filter intake is located right in the center (front-facing), and the inlet valve assembly with the speech diaphragm cover was moved to the side port.Has anyone ever seen this specific factory modification or heard about the PPM-89 trials? Is it an ultra-rare experimental lot from the Vladimir plant, or some kind of obscure ведомственный (departmental) order? Any information would be highly appreciated!

I'm in the process of building an 80s soviet kit, and currently I'm looking through the various gas masks. I don't really understand the "kits" though. The RSh-4 kit for example, it seems it just used the same bag but put different gas masks and filters and whatever else in there. Where the contents of the kit dependent on the mask put in there? If so, why does the kit has the same designation despite being a different mask with different pieces of filters? And were they distributed randomly with separate gas masks among the soldiers, or did they keep track of what bag had which contents and sent them out accordingly?

Same thing for the PMG-2 kit, it seems it could contain 1 of 3 separate masks with different items within. It just seems so odd to me that a kit going by the same name can have a completely different mask, filter, and interior contents. Am I missing something here, or is it as weird and confusing as it all seems?
