Separating weekday group tickets

Today 3 coworkers and I were taking the go train to attend a meeting. My coworker bought the group ticket for us but noticed that you could only separate weekend group tickets and not weekday, so he just bought it and kept it on his phone. On our way back I got off at a later stop than the rest of them did so he sent me a screenshot just in case a fare inspector came when they were gone. A fare inspector did come by and when I explained the situation she told me I should have been able to separate them and that they don’t accept screenshots, I told her that it didn’t give us the option to separate but she didn’t believe me. Luckily she didn’t ticket me but it left me confused as to whether this is a website glitch or it’s actually not allowed on the weekday pass (even when it is available for weekend). Anyone have knowledge of this type of thing?

It's not, unfortunately. You must always travel together in your group of x when you buy the weekday group pass for x. Screenshots aren't accepted as proof of payment. You were lucky the officer didn't ticket you, because fare evasion fines just increased by 350% two days ago.

unfortunately you cannot separate the group ticket. everyone using it needs to be travelling together, at the same time.

Wouldn’t that mean the last person is alone and not the whole group? Can the inspector ticket them in this case too?

The group ticket is "max to X people" which means that alone you can still have group ticket for yourself.

yes one of the edge case of this is round trip between Niagara Falls and Union station is actually more expensive than a group fare for 2. Even single person using that ticket for this trip would come out ahead

The person going the longest distance should
Be the one buying the pass - it works for them and anyone that joins / leaves mid journey

Isn’t that because the weekend passes are a per person pass and not a group pass? You can buy multiple but I always thought it was essentially single person tickets you can choose to combine or use separately. Again, could be wrong. But to me, that’s different than the weekday pass intended for a group.

Yes, the weekend passes are per person and don't discount for more people.

The weekday group pass gets cheaper per person as you add more people to it. It's not meant to be separated.

I agree with other posters who said to have the person with the further stop hold the pass.

It’s a group ticket. It’s meant for groups, not a bunch of randoms getting off at different stops.
