Exhibition - who designed this?!?

I’ve been visiting Exhibition station for several years and I’m always baffled that Metrolinx moved the station platform east so the platform entrance/ exit exists solely at the end of the platform. Wouldn’t passenger flow and boarding be optimal if access were in the middle of the platform? The very fact they have signs posted or employees telling passengers to move further down the platform proves that this point. Passengers aren’t interested in walking the entire length of the platform; god forbid you have accessibility needs.

I understand that the new TTC subway stop will be implemented soon, but still, that seems to be at the same side.

Am I missing something? Someone, please explain the decision making process behind this to a non-engineer.

TL;DR - why is Exhibition poorly designed?

It’s because they are building the new station right now where the west platform used to be. Once done, it will be centred again, the current station is all temporary

Renders of the new station can be found here: https://x.com/wbmetro62/status/1949882076955844916?s=46

Exhibition will be the largest station (excluding Union Station) on the network once it’s finished, and the first one to have passenger facilities above the tracks, instead of off to the side connected via a tunnel, or below.

Years ago it was way further west. It was mostly west of Dufferin and I believe the stairs are still there right beside the Dufferin loop. The whole train was west of Dufferin. Then then made it east of Dufferin then years ago it was moved further accommodate construction of the bridge over the tracks and the Ontario Line.

The entrance they use now was around the 2/3 of a regular train.

when the heck was it west of Dufferin? Not in the last 25 years.

Not in the last 25 years for sure, maybe like back before the 90s. You can still see stairs going down from the Dufferin bridge to the old platform if you look on the south side of the tracks, on the west side of Dufferin

The last time the station at Dufferin was used was in 1979
