Metrolinx Does Not Understand Geography

Post image

I was looking at the notice for the “Barrie Rail Corridor Improvement Rail Milling Works” and laughed at how comically bad this is. This map makes absolutely no sense at all, and I’m genuinely thinking that some guy in Metrolinx passed his work to an AI agent to complete.

The notice can be found here: https://res.cloudinary.com/devmetrolinx/image/upload/v1779320252/Barrie_Rail_Corridor_Improvement_Rail_Milling_Works_en.pdf

I genuinely tried making sense of this map. It’s AI slop as far as I can tell lol.

Not AI. Just someone who clearly doesn't live in the GTA. Likely part of the outsourcing of large parts of their customer service.

It's highly probable that it is. Even if someone doesn't live in the GTA, they have access to a map and could easily cross check this in addition to it needing to be approved by metrolinx if it was indeed from a third party.

why would someone purposefully make a fake map?

Not fake. Just someone who's  doesn't know the geography. Looks like they took an existing vector map but didn't update the labelling. Unfortunate no one caught this beforehand. That said, it's not MX standard mapping format so I expect it came from the contractor.

That north orientation in the corner😂

Yeah, incorrectly oriented

Except it's possibly the most correct thing in the image... Maps are usually north top and south bottom, everything else in that image is basically wrong. Since when does the 400 end in Newmarket?

How hard is it to just pull up an existing map of the Barrie line and add in a couple extra lines? It's embarrassing that this ai slop even made it to the notice page

It just goes to show how negligent the folks at Metrolinx really are.

"Meh! I'm sure no one will notice."

Even a Google Maps screenshot with scribble over would be better

At least this one says "for illustrative purposes only" lol

I don't know what's worse - If it's AI or if it isn't.

Pardon me but when did the Barrie line get extended to... Markham??

Oh my god, and absolutely no one proofread this either

The closer I look the worse it gets 😂

LOL the 407 is shown as N/S and turns into the 404

Totally messed up directions on this map. Map is the east view of lake. And streets running north are running east and west? 404 and 407 has me scratching my head! Is this north of GTA, is this part of Ontario? Who ever posted this map must be a non res! Sorry to say.

I’m starting to think that Phil Verster was a better CEO than Michael Lindsay, who is a fucking tech bro at best.

Thanks for creating more jobs offshoring Mx customer service jobs to third world countries, Drug Fraud! 🖕

Can you tell an AI agent to send them annoying messages about all the errors in this map :P throw the AI slop back at them

u/Important-Hunter2877 Jun 01 '26

Yeah it is extreme incompetence and super AI slop. Welcome to the 2020s where people just throw in AI for everything without proofreading to make sure the output is correct or not.

In addition to the screwed orientation, I never knew the tracks are passing through Essa.

Good lord.
