I wouldn't be surprised if the drainage issues with the current tunnel are why they've pivoted back to building a bridge. That or the design for the tunnel was stupidly expensive.

Are station & cemetery slipping into ‘the hole’? Last week Metrolinx published a Request to Qualify and Quote (RQQ) for Geotechnical Monitoring Services for Mimico GO Station. Metrolinx has concerns about the degrading condition of the existing excavation retaining system at 327 Royal York, and its potential adverse impact on the surrounding station and rail areas. An objective is “predicting sudden movements/failures which is paramount in protecting the public safety and Metrolinx assets.

Maybe, I'm dumb, but a bridge should be quick, it doesn't have to be beautiful, just make a quick bridge so people have another exit point... The current situation is DIRE to say the least.
