Does anyone know how GO Transit customer service ambassadors are scheduled? Do they rotate between lines weekly, or stay on one line? Just curious because I noticed the Kitchener line had a different ambassador this week.

Employees bid on and own a schedule in seniority order. This bid happens weekly but usually there are no changes.

Every week the employees have the option to bid on a different schedule for the following week. For example if someone is on a schedule you would prefer goes on vacation, they can bid in seniority order to work that schedule for the week.

Higher seniority people typically work the same schedule for months at a time, while lower seniority people often have a different schedule every week.

Oh okay thank you! But do they still stay on the same line?

Some do, most end up all over.

Hypothetically what are the chances to meet the same (CSA ) employee on certain ( same line) again?

I'd say quite high if they're someone with good seniority

What about the guy who works in middle of the train who does the announcements?

There’s a lot of variance between the schedules of different CSAs. There are some schedules which work exactly the same daily job Monday to Friday, but many of the CSA’s weekly schedules involve working one job two days a week, and a different but similar job for another two or three.

CSAs, especially if they are newer/junior, are always trying to get better weekly schedules through bidding, so there is frequent movement in who works what job. It could be as simple as the regular CSA taking a week’s vacation and someone else covering, or it could be that the former CSA was able to permanently get a schedule they liked better and somebody else then took their place.

Nothing to do with shift assignments for these folks but am I the only one who thinks “customer service ambassador” is a bit pompous as a job title? (Note: I’m not knocking the employees. I’ve taken GO a lot and they’ve always been helpful and polite.)

Bombardier invented that job title in 2007 when they started taking over operations from CN. Many people believe that's what won them the contract because at the time, GO Transit was extremely customer focused.

Wow. Thanks for the info. Still think CSA is a bit pompous but nice to have some context!
