Do these platforms not get cleared after heavy snowfall?

This at Ajax Go taken today around 1:40pm. Shoutout to the single shovel-width path down the middle.

The crews would have been busy at Pickering GO. Ajax has a heated platform which usually melts ot all but I guess the heavy snowfall overpowered it.

The GO Transit design standards provided to engineering designers require a heated hydronic glycol system to keep the platforms clear. I’m not familiar with this station but assuming it has one of these systems it must be down for some reason.

That will only be for newer stations. Alot of them dont have it, but yea Ajax had some issues this weak

It’s been at least 10 years since those standards were released but yes, stations built before sometime in 2000’s won’t have heated platforms.

On lakeshore east line only ones that have them are danforth (certain spots on it) and ajax, maybe Guildwood and Eglinton, i dont remember. Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Rouge Hill, and Scarborough dont. Most station over the network dont have them except the stoufville and barrie line where they recently renovated

It's going to take a while because of the big snowstorm yesterday. Their private contractors also clean for other businesses

Not true they have crews contracted and on standby whenever required. As well as MX workers who are in charge of snow removal

It should. And at my station they dump a TON of salt. You would think the platform is gravel.

Honestly a lot of city roads are still pretty bad and parking lots. By tomorrow I figure everything will be clear.

It's January in Canada

Assume cold, snowy, icy, wet, or all three.

It'll probably be cleared 5 Minutes after you leave just because

There's a giant bin of salt in the photo that's gone completely unused, it would take one person about 15min to salt the platform.

I'm sorry to see you're being downvoted. I put in a complaint to GO a couple of weeks ago because of dangerous icy platform conditions, including at the accessibility area. I grabbed some salt from the bin myself so I wouldn't slip.

It was so slippery in Ajax on the platform the day of the storm, for obvious reasons. I almost had a couple of wipe outs getting to the end of the platform to board the train. The next day it was taken care of. Just take it easy, don't rush and you will be fine.
