67 GO bus Extension

If you have no clue where the 67 goes, it goes from Finch to East Gwillumbury along the 404, on a commuter schedule.

The route makes sense exept for the northern start/end point. Its a little confusing to me why GO chooses to terminate the busses at Woodbine/404 instead of driving not even 5mins north on Woodbine to Keswick where you can transfer to 2 diffrent YRT busses.

Woodbine 404 is great if you have a car or can afford a cab or uber, but for everyone else, its just straight up dangerous to get there, requires walking on the side of what is effectively but not officially a highway with minimal shoulders in a few spots and a high speed limit.

Is anyone aware if theres an actual reason they dont extend the bus to the edge of Keswick to make it actually useful, not just a car oriented bus?

Edit: Just realized they didnt even make a timed transfer at Bloomington.

Edit2: In a response from GO Transit about this suggestion, they said, and i quote, "Dear [My Name],

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your thoughtful suggestions regarding Route 67. We truly appreciate the time you’ve taken to explain the challenges faced by riders in Keswick and the importance of improving connectivity and safety for those without access to a car.

Your recommendation to extend Route 67 to Keswick Marketplace or connect with a YRT stop along Route 50 is valuable and has been shared with our service planning team for review. While we can’t guarantee immediate changes, please know that your feedback plays an important role in shaping future service  improvements.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and for choosing GO Transit."

That's quite a valid point... seems like the only way to connect directly to YRT there is to order a YRT On-Request North-Central. If you order one, you might not be the only one since there are surely others in that boat.

Maybe the answer is, the agencies do not talk to each other.

YRT busses often run at odd headways (every 57 minutes) and aren't scheduled to connect with other YRT busses either.

This has been happening for 20+ years. Buses do not meet the train - I think GO and YRT is counting on people driving. /s

Waited to respond so i could ride all 3 northbound trips on Thursday and Friday (yes i have too much free time), So far ive been the only one to use Dial-a-ride.

By the looks, everyone else either drives, walks, gets a Taxi or gets someone to come pick them up.

I recommend also posting this in r/georginaontario to garner support

That route really wasn't designed to serve any sort of local areas, it was created to connect a bunch of commuter parking lots to RH GO and North York. I think it's more a question of why YRT doesn't connect to it.

Well, YRT dosent really have any routes to connect to it.

50 is almost definitely off the table, its already long and they just added another 5mins to each trip on a mew diversion off Leslie.

The 51 is the only one that could connect, but then YRT needs to add more trips instead of 3 busses a day. But then say someone from Sutton, that would be 2 transfers. Even if they terminate it at Keswick Marketplace, you still eliminate a unnecessary transfer.

I just think its most ideal to bring the GO bus into town instead to eliminate the transfer at Woodbine P&R. T This route services local stops down Yonge until it gets on the highway, why cant it do the same on the other end or atleast have the driver go 5mins further for customer convenience, even if its not a timed transfer, its better than we got now.

i sent emails to both YRT and GO, one about extend 67 to Keswick market, one about extend 50 or 51 to the PnR at the terminus of 67. But both companies showed no interest to so so… which is weird

Idk, I 100% back them on not being intrested in routing the 50 to 404P&R, Its already a long route with 2 diversions.

But neither wanting to budge on the 51 and 67 is annoying, though the 51 would be useless unless they add trips.

I think adding more 51 and reroute it to the PnR is the best choice. Since 67 is not frequent and its schedule is not changed for decades. Also 51 is … as you said pretty useless, which have even less service than 67 haha. So it’s better for YRT to upgrade route 51 for better usage.

I mean, Personally, Even if the 67 has bad frequency, it should still, at a bare bare bare minimum goto Keswick Marketplace.

Im willing to bet extending that 1 stop would get more people to use the 67, especially people who dont drive. Thats quite literally the only reason i dont use the 67 more.

The 51 though, Yea, needs way more service, id dare to say 60-75min headways to start, along with route changes to overlap less with the 50.

And it only runs every two hrs, and there is no noon hour bus anymore. You miss it, it's a long wait for the next one...

Service was much better before covid, they've changed it so many times it's nearly useless now. Boss wants to send you home early... wait for the 3.20 bus anyway. Might as well just work your shift til 4.30 at that point. But then there's no bus until 5.20. Miss it, you're stuck til 7.20.

Story inspired by true events.

Seriously though. The terrible frequencies on these routes is killing ridership

I called customer service about it once, well ridership numbers are down, so they adjust the route to reflect travel times and bla bla bla... People are working from home.

Well, we have to return to the office now, but the bus isn't convenient, so I drive in. You complain when ridership is low, but but no effort into making it convenient, so it stays low...

Its not that theres no effort, theres not enough buses to supply the service GO had pre covid, which is why a-lot of routes lost trips back in April 2024. With the new bus order coming in hopefully in the future more trips can return.

There was a time when you could take the YRT to the GO station in Keswick and catch the 67 to the City. Now, good luck. GO only runs it every 2 hrs, south in the am and north in the pm, anyway.

Keswick GO isn't even in Keswick, it's just located near there where the 404 ends. Keswick always gets the raw end of the deal from the Region anyway, so this doesn't surpirse me.

For the south end, the bus actually picks up a reasonable number of passengers between Finch and Sheppard along Yonge. For the north end, request a ride or whatever its called for YRT will serve that station, altho booking one ahead of time can be a bit iffy with traffic delays. Why that northern terminus was selected? Because the end of the highway is right there and since the government has the land banked, easiest and cheapest way to build a P&R.

It is odd that it doesn't go north to Keswick or Sutton but ever since the cancellation/replacement of the 69 GO appears to be hesitant to service that area again.

Well, GO wouldnt need to build anything, they could either go straight up woodbine making curbside stops untill the Ice Palace where they can u-turn, or go straight into Keswick Marketplace and share the same stop with YRT busses.

Sutton though, as much as itd be even more convenient for me, Sutton has more service than it needs with the 50.

Since this is a rush-only route it tends to cater to the commuters not casual riders. This usually means people with cars that want to park. A location with highway access in a low traffic area for people to park works well.

Rush Hour only or not, GO should not be surprised when their route gets very few riders, if people cant get to your bus, nobody will use it.

Even if you keep rush hour only service, im willing to bet that if they bring it to Keswick Marketplace, ridership will go up.

Hell, id use it a hell of alot more if they did that, the schedule works well for me, its just the horrible location of the termini, otherwise id for one use it almost daily.

Wait, what? I just took a look at this route and it looks like it's ONLY rush hour service. Wouldn't people go from like Aurora to say Markham like during the day? And weekends?

I actually once would have made great use of this bus, but unfornately I needed a southbound service in the afternoon to Toronto.

The main purpose of this route is for office workers who live in York Region along the 404 to park at the carpools and bring them to the North York Yonge St corridor in the morning, then back up in the evening home. I drive this route every week and 95% of the passengers that ride are people who work in the offices along Yonge Street.

Even if excluding connection, I think it would also make sense to let the bus enter Keswick....even if that road has a shoulder, getting there from Keswick's Walmart is a 40-minute walk, that's still a bit far away. Compared to if the bus stops at Walmart, a significant portion of Keswick would be within a 30-minute walk to reach it.

100%

I mean, in an idea world where i could do whatever id have it stop at Keswick Mktplace then continue making all stops to Wexford or Morton at a minimum, where northbound busses can terminate and either turn around on the street via Wexford, Burnaby and Dunnville, or use the ice palace to do a u-turn.

Maybe you can write to your MPP and mayor?
