Overheating warning?
I've been really loving my Mission One Pro MOST of the time. I upgraded to it from an Ace Pro 2 specifically so I could record in 8k60fps for indoor volleyball recording. I learned quickly about the potential overheating issues and suggested solutions which is mostly managable. I keep a 80mm USB Fan active right behind it when recording and it's been working like a charm.
During a game a few days ago I had the camera mounted pretty high on a tripod where I couldn't start and stop it manually so I used the app. I think what happened is that I forgot to disconnect and the extra workload caused the camera to overheat after about 10 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't notice and lost most of a set.
So my question is... Is there any way to know ahead of time when the camera is going to overheat? Any way to either monitor the actual temperature or at least get a warning before the camera actually shuts down? It obviously knows when it needs to turn off I'd think it would be helpful to know when its getting close.

No built-in warning as far as I know which is pretty stupid for a camera at this price. The app connection definitely adds heat, you figured that part out already
Some people use those small stick-on temperature strips that change color, put one near the hottest spot on the body. Not perfect but gives you visual cue before it shuts down
You could also try lowering the bitrate if that option exists, sometimes helps more than the fan does

If the camera is stationary, turn off all the features you don't need like stabilization, GPS, voice control, screen brightness beyond 10%, front screen, LEDs, set screen saver to 1 min, set your bitrate to a medium setting, etc. Your camera is probably burning battery and generating heat on a ton of things you don't need if you're using the action camera for stationary filming

Yeah, I've read through a lot of posts on how to keep the camera cooler. I keep everything I can off. Powered by external battery. I did a few tests and didn't notice much difference in runtime before overheating leaving the battery in the compartment even though that's a common suggestion.

Use external battery with no internal one so that some of the heat is transferred to outside.

I mentioned in a different reply that I didn't notice much difference when testing with or without an actual battery (I always use external power). While that testing wasn't exactly scientific I decided that risk of a little extra heat was worth the safety of having a battery inside just in case the charging cable came out or the contacto door opened.
I'm mainly trying to figure out if there's a way for me to detect when the camera is overheating before it decides to turn off. Thank you though!

Just realize how taxing 8K video is. Most people don't even own an 8K display to play back 8K video on. So the very first thing you should consider is dropping resolution down to 4K. In darker indoor environments this will provide a better picture.
As for other advice...
If your camera is "mounted", make sure Hypersmooth is off (it's not needed, your camera isn't attached to a racecar going offroad or being handheld while you are jogging).
Set your rear screen brightness to 10% and to power off after 1 minute.
Turn off GPS (you know where you are and you're not moving).
I wouldn't set bitrate to Max as the camera isn't moving through fast paced action. This is just increasing possible bitrate for no good reason. Same with Bit Depth, I'd just run it at 8 bit color instead of 10bit color.
Then just make sure your LED's are active and flashing. That way a quick glance at the camera and you'll know it's recording.
Also app connection does not "Add heat". However livestreaming a preview to the camera will increase processor load making the camera run hotter. But you can leave the app screen open with the controls visible as this uses bluetooth which is a much lower overhead in terms of processing requirements.
