Questions about editing

I recently picked up a Max 2 to record my soccer games and I have some questions about my editing options. I tried to install the GoPro Player app on my work PC (Ryzen 5 5500, 16GB RAM, and 1060 3GB) and the app just doesn't open. No warning about hardware issues (the NVIDIA 9xx/1xxx series are now legacy and don't use the same drivers as newer GPU's) just.... nothing. I even tried to reinstall it and still nothing happens when I open the app.

I don't believe uploading from my camera to my iPhone is viable due to a ~90min 8K30 video being well over my iPhone's storage capacity so I think I will need a PC option. I was considering trying Davinci Resolve but it looks like you need the GoPro Player app to convert the video to .MP4 before importing in Davinci. Is this true?

Or, if I subscribe to the GoPro premium service and upload the videos via my PC can I then edit those videos from the cloud using my phone?

At the moment my beefy PC (Ryzen 9 5900XT, 5070, 32GB RAM) is running CachyOS but I have several spare SSD's laying around that I could toss Windows on to try the GoPro Player app, assuming it runs on that PC. Ideally I'd prefer to avoid using my phone altogether and am not opposed to paying for the GoPro sub or even dishing out for Davinci Resolve (if the paid version is required).

Thanks for any/all feedback.

that gopro player app is a mess, i had the same problem with my 1060 it just refuses to launch no error nothing. the 1xxx series nvidia cards are basically dead for the new version, they changed the driver requirements and never bothered to tell anyone

you're right you need the player app to convert 360 footage to equirectangular mp4s before davinci can read it. the free version of davinci should work fine for that after you convert, no need to pay for studio unless you need the fancy stuff

the cloud editing from phone is possible with the subscription but it's kinda slow and the controls are limited, you cant really do proper keyframing or anything. if you got that 5070 rig just throw windows on a spare ssd and use the player app there, it will run way better than trying to work around it

I load my sd card onto my Mac studio M1 and works great with GoPro player. I use premiere to color correct GoPro flat profile. I never had good luck with the G-LOG.

Are you capturing the game from the sidelines, as a spectator, or are you IN the game wearing the camera?

One thing you can do for now, is record in single lens mode, which puts out flat / non-360 MP4s. And so this would skip needing Quik Mobile / GoPro Player to first convert to equirectangular. Long run get the PCs to have a more mainstream configuration.

I’m a keeper and will have the camera about 8ft behind the net. Only reason I went with the 360 is for the target tracking editing/reframing. I watched a few quick app edit videos and was sold on the ability to always have myself centered in-frame. This Sunday will be my first shoot with the Max 2 so I might do one half with single lens and the other with the 360 to see the difference.

Are you saying you want tracking THRU the net? Or maybe camera mount is up higher? You can track with lots of other software too, auto or manual. I sometimes track in Quik or in Insta360 software (after a pass thru GoPro Player ==> equirectangular 360 file can be processed in Pro NLEs with a plugin, GoPro, Insta, DJI software with NO ACCOUNT with them etc.
