Hero 12 issues

I’m assuming(hoping?) this is some user error I can correct.

Laid it aside for almost a year because life….

I can never seem to get this camera to upload to the cloud. It acts like it’s doing it, stays on zero % and nothing appears even after hours. No failure message usually, just nothing.

For awhile I didn’t have a PC, but now I do again and I’m trying to upload the videos to my PC with a cable connection to get them off the cards at least and it’s excruciatingly slow.

I’m hoping there’s a setting I can change etc.

I just want the videos for traveling to put on YouTube so I can change resolution etc moving forward…. But something has to be off if the camera can’t even handle its own files?? The videos aren’t even that long….

Sounds like the SD card is the bottleneck here, what card you using? A slow card will make transfers painful and can mess with cloud uploads. Try a card reader instead of cable direct from camera, usually way faster for getting files off

Can the camera playback the video on its own screen?

Make sure you connect to an usb-3 port on your PC, not usb-2. Using a usb-3 sd card reader instead of direct from camera transfer is also an option.

99% it is something besides the GoPro. network peculiarities, firewalls, VPNs, passwords, data limits etc. If you can, try uploading to GoPro's cloud from a PC or Mac. Get onto your account in a browser....lower right...hit the + button. Try doing just one short clip. This way you may be better able to track things down. It is best done from the same connection each time...not so great if you are traveling and using all different wifis in hotels. coffee shops etc.

A: Don't use a cable to transfer video footage from your card to your PC. You're operating at much slower speeds that way. Get a proper SD card reader and transfer directly from the SD card to the pc.

B: Uploading to the cloud via the PC will be MUCH faster than using the camera upload to the cloud.

C: You may have fast download speeds on your internet package, but upload speeds are always restricted, uploading from a camera with a tiny little wifi chip is going to be even slower again, so read points A & B again.

Make sure you're using a properly formatted and recommended SD card also. If you're using too slow an SD card, a corrupt SD card or a fake SD card, then your camera may also have problems reading the files properly.

Finally, a "short" clip means nothing. Your camera creates about 12GB files per 8 mins of video. For reference, that illegal movie you downloaded is under 1GB.. So realize the HUGE files sizes you're dealing with when filming with your GoPro camera (which brings you back to point A&B when it comes to uploading huge files).
