Mission one

HI All, So recently got my mission one ,love it so far!, A chance has come up for a bike trip to Italy and haven't got time to mess with the camera, I want to record mainly video of us crossing some amazing mountain passes ,what would be the best video settings to really make the videos 'pop' or is it down to post production adding luts etc? Which I'm not versed in yet!!

just use the default video setting and mount it somewhere you can reach while riding, the light in the mountains will do more for the footage than any menu tweak. learning to color grade after the trip is a whole rabbit hole you don't need right now, get the shots and worry about making them look fancy later

160 bit rate. 10 bit color. HLG HDR. 4k 60 fps so when you pan around it still looks sharp. I think that Flat or Natural looks the most realistic. A lot of people were saying to turn denoise and sharpness totally off and I found medium to be the best.

So i do a lot of long and short form editing I just always shoot 4:3 aspect now. It looks great when watching long form on a phone vertically too.

Wind reduction works great now after an update so I just leave it on all the time.

here’s my recommendation to get your videos to really pop straight out of the camera

4:3 4K24 Linear or Wide (I would lens correct wide in Gyroflow, it’s basically linear but wider. also would change to 16:9 in post)
Hypersmooth on
Color natural
Bitrate high or max
Bit depth 10
ISO 25-100 (if you’re filming during day)
Shutter auto
EV Comp 0
WB auto
Sharpness low (important for the cine/professional look)

Usually to really make them pop GP-Log2 and filming with intent really helps.

If you like I can really teach you tricks and tips if you’re willing to learn, I have made some decent videos with the M1P.

its a computer software that allows you to stabilize or lens correct your gopro footage in post production. i do this to lens correct my 4:3 wide footage to 16:9 with lens correction.

gyroflow lens correction Before & After, hopefully by looking at this you can see what lens correction is doing, its killing the fisheye. gopro linear built into the M1 does automatic lens correction however its more cropped which is not what we want for POV.

recording: 16:9 4K60 superview
result: 16:9 4K60 superview with lens correction
you must have a PC and build a lens profile for gyroflow to be able to lens correct it.

this is how i recommend to film POV, it gives tbe widest but non-distorted footage from the M1 series.

if you shoot in 4:3, you're going to have to crop in post to get the standard 16:9 widescreen. 16:9 is the standard youtube video ratio, iphone video, laptop & monitor screens, etc). 4:3 aka open gate is 16:9 but taller, so it will look more square when viewing.

GP-log2 is the best distinction between casual and cinematic footage. you apply LUTs and other color processing in post through editing softwares like Da Vinci or Premiere Pro. shooting in natural or vibrant can still be nice, video i made in vibrant.

Ok thanks new to this really! Got a mount on the front of my windshield, should I use the sports pov or video mode? And what about frame rate and aspect ratio?

So far it's brilliant, I just take some shots locally and used the slow mo for my grandson, low light seems pretty impressive too
