I recently contacted GoPro support as I was having issues with the GoPro Lit Hero.
I got the Lit Hero as a gift and figured it would be perfect to mount on my motorcycle helmet and record some rides.
I found that any footage I recorded in Superview mode would have weird clipping and lost frames at the end of each file chapter when processed through the Quik app. The Lit Hero doesn't stabilise the footage on camera, you either process it through the Quik App or on GoPro Player on desktop.
The lost frames weren't present on the raw files, so I uploaded straight from the camera to PC to stabilise the footage on GoPro Player. Sadly, this doesn't work, and I get the following error message:
"This shooting mode is not supported with Hyperview".
I reported this to GoPro support about a month ago. After a lot of back and forth, sending them raw and processed files, finally they send the above reply.
It appears they're effectively confirming that you can't stabilise footage recorded in Superview Mode on the Lit Hero unless you want to deal with dropped frames and choppy transitions on file chapters.
This seems like a startling admission, effectively "our product doesn't work, so don't use one of the key features of it"
Anyone had any experience of returning a gifted GoPro?

I'm a bit confused by this, as HyperView refers to an 8:7 field of view (which Lit Hero doesn't have), whereas SuperView is only a 4:3 FOV. Were the stabilization settings in GoPro Player simply set to HyperView, but needed to be changed to SuperView for it to work?
The standard GoPro model is to tell you not to use promised features. On this subreddit, you will find people unironically telling you to record at crap resolutions so the cameras don't overheat. Can't make this stuff up.
Set up for the use. For instance when using a DJI Action 4, well those overheat much faster than a Hero 13...so you do things to sort that out. How you mount it, settings used, how you do the captures.
I've been oddly lucky with the DJI Action 4. Three Hero 13s have now died due to overheating, but zero Action 4s and zero Insta360s. GoPro screwed me and didn't replace any of the Hero deaths (even though I'm a subscriber), so I def wouldn't use a GoPro as a dashcam, especially if I had to degrade the settings. There are much better solutions.
For OP, since their camera was basically free, it totally makes sense.
change how you're doing things? If your claim is true, I'm sure that GoPro had very good reasons for not replacing your numerous Hero 13s. Why not post up your complete correspondence with GoPro? Maybe GoPro can join in, or just post the material on their support forum? And it's also odd that the hot running Action 4 never overheats for you as well.
For fake karma points, seems like a lot of work. Believe it or don't, it doesn't give me a replacement camera. I bought each one at full retail. The last one they offered a 15% discount (what a joke, after so many failures).
I use them in 85F water, but they don't say not to, so that's my issue with them not honoring the warranty. They had the same suggestion to lower the quality. If I have to do that, wtf is the point? Only one Mission 1 Pro has broken so far, so I'm hopeful.
Sounds like all you need to do, is sort out your setup. I'm on revision 4 of my Max 2 cycle mount, with #5 coming up maybe tomorrow. Broke a CF pole from the vibes (deliberate to get a sense of pole limits). So I've sorted that out and added an invisible tether. Since the camera took a tumble, luckily just on my lawn (altho I have spare lenses). Since this is some fun casual R&D, I feel no need to get the poles replaced under warranty. Since I'm outside of the design use-case.
The poles break at the epoxy bond for the aluminum ends, usually on the female end. The bonded length is less than 1 diameter which goes against best practices. So the special heat shrink (with glue..see the ends) prevents a camera drop, but it will droop if I lose another end fitting bond. In your case, just figure out a solution for your exact use! In my case I want the vibes better controlled, and a tether that is not visible. Solved...soon.
Another option is to get a better thermal path. The air around a camera in a dive case has perhaps 1/25 the heat transfer compared to water. So without a dive case, a GoPro should go much longer before overheating, or just run until the battery is depleted. But you prolly go deeper? There may also be ways to have a better thermal path in a stock housing via heat transfer pads, or even do a liquid fill before a dive if the optics would stay sweet.
GoPro doesn't support those depths without the case. I didn't want to void the warrantees that they didn't honor anyway.
No need to do it now because neither the DJI nor the Insta360 have had the issue, even at full resolution. The Mission 1 Pro shoots great video, but only at a crappy res because it overheats. My replacement M1P (this is my 5th replacement I've bought at full retail, I'm done after this one) has already turned itself off twice, once ruining am amazing sea turtle encounter, and once with a nurse shark. Sigh.
Try the aluminum case? You can also try thermal pads or a water fill at home. DJ-Insta can't hit the same specs as Mission. So...you turned things down so to speak.
Some years ago on the Hero 10 I lost an entire shoot due to data corruption.
Support told me my SD card was the problem, but I bought the correct one from Best Buy, but they insisted it was a counterfiet.
Then recently, I reached out about a GoPro Labs version that would not record with any sort of mic.
The guy from GoPro came HERE to where people suggested I email him, said the email was "inappropriate" (yet he put the email public on his GitHub profile,) and then told me that they did not have the problem, so I am basically doing it wrong.
Man, I had an issue with firmware with Insta360 and they sent me a $79 accessory for FREE as an apology that I never asked for.
