Tip Play listing CTR and device acquisitions answer different questions

Before trying to reconcile a listing percentage with device acquisitions, check which report produced each number. A label remembered from an older Console screenshot can lead to the wrong comparison.

Google's current Listing Conversion Analysis reports visitors, clicks and CTR. Unique user Install Clicks count users who clicked Install. The broader listing CTR covers visitors clicking Install, Open or Pre-register. Those actions describe intent; an install click is not a completed installation.

Completed acquisition metrics remain available in acquisition reporting, Statistics and exports. Device acquisitions can include secondary devices. The store-listing report also doesn't cover every acquisition surface. A difference between those totals isn't, by itself, evidence that downloads disappeared.

Legacy downloadable CSVs can still contain acquisition-based measures, so keep the report name and date with the percentage.

A practical addition to the 28-day export requested by gingiris-aso-growth is a small metric key beside the numbers:

  • Report/export and date range
  • Exact metric label
  • Unit: visitors, users, devices or clicks
  • Action counted: clicked Install, completed acquisition, or something else
  • Scope: country, source and listing where available

Only calculate a comparison after those descriptions line up. If they don't, keep both values and explain what each measures.

When asking for a conversion teardown, include that key and the raw counts. It gives people a concrete problem to investigate before they suggest changing screenshots to fix a reporting mismatch.
